A Day In The Life
A Day In The Life
Some of our secondary kids got to learn to work on boilers (used for heating here in Alaska)
Yes, those are REAL wolf furs hanging up!
Hey All! It has been a couple of weeks since my last post! I have had a little time to get into more of a routine, so I will try to share with you about a normal work day.
I currently am teaching 6-12 grade. We have the students split 6-8 and 9-12. There are 6 students in each class, for a TOTAL of TWELVE students!! I have SIX preps...
Middle ELA Middle Social Studies
American Lit US History
Journalism PE
Yes, it is ALOT! But the flip side of that is the small class sizes and the ability to really connect with my students.
I normally get up around 6:30-7:00 and get ready for work. I typically wear dress pants and a nice shirt/blouse/sweater. The school stays HOT and I keep my windows open most of the time. I am told that will change when winter sets in.
My report time is 8:15, but I normally go in around 7:45/8:00 am. Classes start at 8:45 am.
First I have middle ELA, 70 minutes. I have four 6th graders, one 7th grader, and one 8th grader. The various levels isn't too difficult since I often have to provide instructions to various abilities, even in a class of all the same grade.
Next up is my high school babies for 70 minutes. I have three 9th graders, one 10th grader, and two SENIORS!!
For my third class, the middlers come back to me for Social Studies, 50 minutes. This year they are doing a US History focus, but not the same as the high school level focus.
LUNCH TIME!!!!! I have a 30 minute duty free lunch.
Guess what fourth period is.... YEP, High School US History, 50 minutes. They are focusing more on the history aspects while middle is focusing more on the people and their voices.
The secondary students go to their selected electives for 5th period. I teach Journalism during this period for this semester. Next semester we will do something different.
The last class of the day is PE. These kids were so upset that I required athletic shoes, a warm up, and a structured activity. BUT, they have adjusted and are loving it now. I am wanting to get these kids some more equipment, because they are really doing without here! I have a list here: NULATO WISH LIST
After the kids leave at 3:30 pm, I have 30 minutes of planning. Then I go home!
It is a LONG 2 minute walk to the house... ha ha...
