It's Getting Wild
It's Getting Wild
Hello All!
It has been a crazy busy week! I went and did my giant bulk Grocery shopping last week while in Fairbanks. I am still waiting on my food to arrive!! Luckily I have some bread, peanut butter, jelly, and a few more basics.
I had the new teacher inservice last week on Aug 7th and 8th. That was informative and gave me a chance to meet some of the other teachers that will be in nearby villages. It also gave me a chance to meet the district staff that supports us out in the bush.
Flying to Nulato was awesome! The small plane sat about 12 people and had a little freight in the rear. The flight was about 1 1/2 hours from Fairbanks. Most people took that as an opportunity to nap. I did try but the tiny humans that were sitting next to me kept showing me their artwork.
At some point I will have to ride up to the airport and take a panoramic for everyone to see. It is a breathtaking view from up there.
I arrived in the village on Sat, August 9th and immediately tried to start getting my house in order. It isn't going super fast though. I am missing about 30 of my boxes, one of those has my tools! I feel like I am in limbo a little bit because I can't put together my shelving and such until my tools get here so I have stuff kind of scattered.
Landing in Nulato!!!
Some footage of me leaving the Post Office!
I took a little video today when I rode the ATV up to the post office. It is not the best footage, but it will have to do for now.
I have one more day of preplanning and then school starts. I currently have a total of 15 students on roster, but they think the numbers will actually be a little lower this year. It's a wait and see game as to who shows up.
I have been warned that there may be bears at the trash incinerator, but luckily there was only an unkindness of ravens. I seriously thought that the Ravens might come knocking at my (car) door...
I love the people who live here in the village. They are very friendly and very willing to talk with you about whatever.
My LONG walk home each day!
