What is Professional Development ? - Professional development is a way for individuals and teams to expand and/or deepen their skills as educators. Professional development (sometimes abbreviated as PD) generally refers to formal classes, seminars, and workshops. These can involve learning new teaching techniques and methodology based on emerging research, as well as strategies for implementation. However, professional development can also focus on general skills, such as interpersonal communication, or corollary subject areas, such as child psychology
Hello! My name is Hector Olave and I am proud to be the PD Director for the 23-24 UH school year! I am a Chemistry Major and Junior at UH, I enjoy learning and teaching new strategies and topic to students and teachers alike which makes the PD position a perfect fit. This semester as the PD Director I hope to encourage and enlighten the students of the UH program in new teaching topics, philosophies, and understandings. During the Fall 23 semester I will be covering PD's over what I like to call the "New Teacher" as many new teachers are entering the profession during a complex teaching environment and I aim to encourage them to not only survive but thrive!

For the Fall 2023 semester, We will have Governing members along with Junior Officers, teachers, teachHOUSTON master teachers, and teachHOUSTON alumni, sharing their experience, and providing new insights into how we can further skills as teachers!
This semester we at the society are proud to say that the Majority of our PD's will be in person, we are still offering a few online via Teams, for those unable to make the in person but we hope to see you!
This year we are also increasing the amount of PD credits required
Two PD credits will now be required for each teachHOUSTON Class along with 1 CS credit and 1 credit of either PD or CS
Each PD will count as 1 credit.
We will not have a physical task log; instead, the officers will be keeping track of a master spreadsheet, and your master teachers and their student workers will be able to view it. To receive credit for attending each PD, be sure to actively participate in them, and submit the reflection form at the end!
We will also be uploading the Google Slides presentations of each PD the day after it is hosted. You can check these out in the "Past Professional Development Presentations" sections.
You should watch the VOD PD videos if you need to get PD credit and have missed the online ones!
For questions about PDs, feel free to reach out our Director of PD's, Hector Olave, at tHssProDev@gmail.com.
