HISTORY OF TEACHERS' RADIO

The Teachers’ Radio 102.1 FM of the National Teachers’ Institute was established in pursuit of the Institutes’ Mandate of Producing Professional and Skilled Teachers Nationwide. The Station was Approved and Licensed by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in 2006, and Commissioned as the Teachers’ Radio, 102.1 F.M. in January 2009.

Meanwhile, the station operates from 06:00 in the Mornings to 12:00 Midnights from Mondays to Sundays and even during Public Holidays.   

OUR OBJECTIVES

The vision of the Teachers’ Radio, 102.1 F.M. is to be an efficient Vehicle for Teaching, Advocacy and Mobilization of Teachers towards meeting the challenges of the teaching profession, while ensuring optimal learning achievements towards the children they teach. Therefore, its main focus in programming is the Teachers, Children and School Goals in order to address Educational issues and in so doing, Raising the Standard of Education in Nigeria.

Teachers’ Radio 102.1 FM is an Educational Broadcast Channel that thrives to:

· Further Enhance the Distance Learning Programmes of the National Teachers Institute, Broadcasting its teaching Modules to its Students all over Nigeria.

·  Be an Efficient Vehicle for Advocacy, and Mobilization of Teachers to Rise Up to the Challenges of the Teaching Profession.

·  Discuss Educational Issues and in its Programming, all aimed at helping to Raise the Standard of Education in the Country.

·  Arouse Greater Interest in the Teaching Profession among Primary and Junior Secondary School Teachers.

·  Motivate Teachers to Change their Teaching Styles from Teacher Centered Styles of the past, to more of the Child-Centered Methods.

· Encourage Teachers to be more committed to their Assignments as Teachers.

·  In School Systems where Skilled Teachers are in short supply, the National Teachers’ Radio can improve Students’ Learning while helping Teachers gain Skills and Confidence.
