Increase the number of teachers of color in Monroe County, NY through a parent-led, data driven effort.
Our Goal
To encourage and support parental advocacy in Monroe County School Districts focused on the implementation of the following practices in the next 3-5 years
Annually document and publish recruitment and hiring practices, strategies and data for public presentation and engagement
Include parents of color on hiring committees.
Implement effective retention strategies for teachers of color
Monroe County School Districts to partner with PLTI and St. John Fisher University to host Future Teacher Clubs
Research shows that having a teacher of color can help students of color reach better outcomes;
but the benefits extend to all young people, preparing them to live and work in an increasingly diverse society.

Effort 1: Research
Conducted national and local research on teacher diversity (the challenges and solutions).
Informal discussions with parents, community partners and school district leaders throughout Monroe County.
Read about bright spots observed by parents in a variety of Monroe County school districts and schools.
Read published articles, reports, websites, and recordings.
