All teachers cherish the feeling: The thrill of inspiration that comes from inspiring others. But whether it be writing report cards or managing the classroom, daily stresses can make it hard to keep that inspiration alive.

I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.

One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is a vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

If kids come to educators and teachers from strong, healthy, functioning families, it makes our job easier. If they do not come to us from strong, healthy, functioning families, it makes our job more important.

Just five short years ago, I was an administrator in charge of professional development for my high school. But now, after teaching teacher leadership full time at the university level, my wish is that I could travel back in time and have a very important conversation with myself. The reason? I have now worked with and learned from hundreds of teachers who are more than willing to tell it like it is.

When we come back together as a group to analyze their survey results, we find that regardless of size, location, economics, or any other demographics, the results are strikingly similar. As instructional-coaching researcher Jim Knight articulated more than a decade ago in Unmistakable Impact: A Partnership Approach for Dramatically Improving Instruction (ASCD, 2011), teachers feel that PD is something that is done to them, not with them. It really is that simple.

As you share with teachers their survey results and the collaborative plan for the upcoming year based on those results, the culture in your building will begin to shift immediately. They will recognize their own words in the results and will see a plan that has taken their ideas and their unique needs into consideration. And most importantly, they will see you being vulnerable as you listen to their suggestions and make real and meaningful changes from past practices.

World Teachers' Day falls annually on October 5. The day honours the role teachers play in shaping and transforming our lives. After our parents, our teachers are often the first point of contact in our journey to becoming adults who contribute positively to society and in shaping our future. This day aims to commemorate the anniversary of the 1966 ILO and UNESCO Recommendation adoption concerning the Status of Teachers, setting benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions. While India celebrates Teachers' Day on September 5 to mark Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birth anniversary, the world marks Teachers' Day a month later.

If you and your loved ones are celebrating your favourite teachers on the special occasion of World Teachers' Day, we have curated wishes, images, quotes, messages and greetings for you to share with them. Scroll through to check them out.

Hopefully, casting your eyes over these words will be exactly the kind of micro-moment you need to get through the rest of your day. Or, if you have a teacher friend who you know needs a little love and light right now, send these bits of inspiration for educators their way!

As teachers, we have a lot on our shoulders, and yes, that does mean literally teaching kids their ABCs and their 123s. However, the love and kindness, and compassion we show in the classroom every day is going a long way too! It helps our students see the kind of people they can grow up to be!

Happy Teacher's Day 2023: The first teacher's day in India was observed on September 5. Since then, it's been an annual tradition. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of the first Vice-President and second President of India, Dr. S Radhakrishnan. It honours and appreciates the teachers and educators who have made endless contributions to shaping young minds.

Earlier this month, Education Austin, the union that represents Austin ISD teachers and staff members, filed grievances on behalf of 127 educators who were denied medical accommodations by the district.

Union leaders say Austin ISD denied more than a thousand requests for teachers and staff for the spring semester. Those teachers wish to continue working remotely. While the wishes of some teachers were granted for the fall semester, they were largely denied for the upcoming semester. Some of the teachers who made requests have health issues.

What a wonderful idea -- to encourage the best and the brightest among us to join the ranks of America's finest teachers. So many career professionals can bring invaluable experience to the classroom.

I'll never forget a story I heard from John Erickson, an award-winning author who writes the "Hank the Cowdog" children's books. He credits his twelfth grade English teacher, Annie Love, for inspiring his writing abilities.

"I guess you could say it was my first book." John kept in touch with his teacher through college, and he often asked her to read his books before they were published. In fact, you will find her name in one of his books, which he dedicated to her.

To me, there is something almost sacred about teaching. As the historian Henry Brooks Adams said, "A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." Watching a child's eyes brighten with understanding is an experience that defies description. But it's something that every teacher can understand.

I can trace my own love of teaching back to childhood. I admired one of my teachers so much that I decided I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. Her name was Miss Gnagy, and she was my second-grade teacher. I did become a teacher, and those experiences are some of the most important of my life.

President Bush joins me in sending our best wishes on this special occasion. We believe in America's teachers. Thank you all very very much, and thank you for your dedication to educating our children.

It's important that children and young people feel happy about their achievements and have images of their special moments for themselves and their families to look back on. This includes photos and videos taken by teachers during school performances and special events, or by staff and volunteers delivering events and activities outside of school.

Schools, clubs and organisations should have a written photography and filming policy statement that sets out your overall approach to images taken of children and young people during events and activities.

You may choose to use a professional photography or filming service to capture events involving children. If so, you should ensure that parents and children are informed and consent to this prior to the event. The photographer should be given a clear brief to ensure that images are taken only for specified purposes, and only those children who have provided consent are captured in any photo or video footage.

If parents, carers and other spectators are attending an event, they may wish to take photos and videos or livestream. If so, it's important to have a photography and filming policy statement that is shared with parents and carers prior to the event. This will help to set out rules around taking photos, videos or livestreams to help to minimise the risks of images being misused or shared without consent.

You should only share images when it is safe, appropriate and in line with your photography and filming policy to do so. You should also make sure you have written consent from the parent or carer and the child to use the image in the way you have planned.

Consider asking parents not to share any photos or videos of events and activities on social media, where other people's children can be identified. Explain how sharing images in this way could place some children and families at risk.

The Department for Education (DfE) has provided a data protection toolkit for schools in England, which includes information about the retention and storage of images of children (DfE, 2023). The best practice set out in this guidance may also be helpful to schools in other nations of the UK.

Artistic modification does not require an extremely high level of content expertise because it is essentially a personalization process. Each teacher is the best expert of his or her own experience, and artistic modification is simply a process of inviting teachers to put this personalized experience into the material they are using.

From a practical standpoint, these categories and examples are designed to help teachers analyze and understand the different ways in which artistic modifications can be made. As can be seen from these examples, suggestions for modifications can be both general and specific, but they must always be personal rather than prescribed by textbooks or curriculum guides. The goal of this process is to encourage teachers to put themselves into the curriculum rather than drawing totally on the knowledge and experience of the person(s) who developed the material. A related goal is to create excitement arid involvement in teachers so that they can, in turn, arouse interest, curiosity and motivation in their students.

We heard back from one of our art teachers who added a course image of a camera to her digital photography class box. The next day students thanked her for doing this; it made her class stick out even more easily for them to find faster. This is especially helpful because we integrate with our district SIS, PowerSchool, and both student and teacher users get a LOT of auto-created classes "dumped" on their dash some of which aren't used. For those users who haven't selected favorite classes yet (for one reason or another), looking for the unique course graphic helps everyone get to resources faster. Ask any teacher that in the K12 classroom those seconds count! 006ab0faaa
