Abstract:Â
In this talk, I present an overview of my research at the intersection of information systems, environmental informatics, and remote sensing, with a focus on AI-driven approaches for environmental monitoring in urban and climate sensitive contexts. My work integrates satellite imagery, ground based imaging systems, and sensor time series with machine learning and computer vision to study air pollution, rainfall and solar irradiance, and coastal and cryosphere dynamics.
Using representative case studies, I highlight key spatial and temporal challenges in environmental data and show how AI-based models can move beyond retrospective analysis toward real time intelligence and predictive decision support. The talk adopts a systems level perspective, emphasizing robustness, scalability, and practical deployment alongside algorithmic performance. Overall, it outlines a vision for smart cities that are not only connected, but also environmentally aware and climate resilient.
