We are an upcoming preservation breeder dedicated to ethically bred and health tested Hmong Bobtail dogs in Washington state. Our goal is to produce quality dogs with stable temperaments, excellent health, and conformation/type in mind. Since the breed is not recognized yet by a major kennel club, we cannot participate in conformation shows, but plan to dabble in sports the breed can excel in such as Barnhunt, FastCAT, Nosework, and more.
Our kennel currently houses just one female Hmong Bobtail, our foundation girl Hua. Future breeding plans have not been set in stone yet but is looking around 2 years from now (some time 2026) after health testing is done. More information on upcoming litters will be announced when we are prepared to share. Our kennel only works domestically with other active HBCA member-breeders who follow the club's code of ethics.
In the future we will plan to import more bobtails from established breeders in Vietnam to introduce new lines to ours here in the US. This will help spread genetic diversity among the breed and connect with other breeders in the country of origin (Vietnam). We hope to share our love and passion for our heritage breed through responsible breeding, advocacy, and education.

How to Find a Reputable Hmong Bobtail Breeder
Ensure your breeder is health testing breeding dogs. This information should always be readily available to share with potential puppy buyers. If a breeder is hesitant to share this with you, then they are likely hiding something or have not done it. We do not recommend buying from breeders who do not health test. A vet check or embark DNA screening alone does not count. Our breed club recommends testing Elbows, Hips, and Patellas through OFA and also Cardiac and Eyes (CAER). You can search the OFA database for all public records.
Active breeder-members of our parent breed club follow a set of rules to ensure ethical breeding and ownership are followed. This ensures members do not exploit the breed for greed. It also helps to keep our breed out of shelters and rescues as members must take back all dogs they produce (and their descendants) for any return reason. You can read our club's rules of ethics here. Support breeders who are passionate about preserving the breed responsibly and who will assist and your puppy throughout their lifetime.
Whether a breeder is working their dogs (hunting, nosework, etc) or titling with breed relevant sports, make sure they are doing more than just breeding two house pets with nothing to show for. While we love all pets as they have a place in our homes and heart, breeding should be reserved for dogs who are stand out ambassadors. We believe temperament, breed type, health, and working ability and/or related titles of achievements should all be taken into consideration when breeding.
Is this breeder a known individual within the breed community? If a breeder is not known or an active member of the parent breed club, does not health test their line, or work/title their dogs in breed relevant activities then they are most likely not a reputable breeder but a backyard breeder. The breed community is currently small so we know those ethically involved in the preservation of this breed. If you're unsure if a Hmong Bobtail breeder is reputable or not, feel free to ask us!
