AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides in-person and virtual tax assistance to anyone, free of charge, with a focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low to moderate income. Tax-Aide volunteers are located nationwide, and are trained and IRS-certified every year to make sure they know about and understand the latest changes and additions to the tax code. Tax-Aide is always looking for new volunteers to serve either as Client Facilitators (aka Greeters) to perform check in duties at our sites or as Counselors to prepare tax returns. TAXPAYER INFORMATION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Taxpayers are responsible for the completeness & accuracy of their return. We prepare your return based upon the documents you provide and what you tell us. Our volunteers do not provide legal or financial advice.
There are some returns that we cannot prepare. Click Scope for information about returns we can and cannot prepare. CASUALTY LOSSES - Tax-Aide cannot prepare returns with casualty losses but we can help you decide if claiming a loss would benefit you and discuss your options related to claiming a loss.
The intake paperwork must be fully and accurately completed. For the no contact service model, Form 14446 must be signed (by both taxpayers if filing MFJ) before your return can be started.
Form 8879 must be signed (by both taxpayers if a joint return) before the return can be e-filed.
IRS rules require that you bring a photo ID for all taxpayers and Social Security or ITIN cards for everyone listed on the return. Social Security statements or other government documents can substitute for Social Security cards if they display the whole SSN.
