But one that needs to be admitted to. We...and teachers before us...put kids off writing. I remember the heartbreak when a professor SLASHED through my writing. I've seen my daughter - a fantastic writer - put away the book she was writing and 'give up', because of her ELA teachers' harsh words.
Writing is personal, writing is owned by the writer.

Two key moments in the early pages - remembering what feedback is FOR, what the GOAL of feedback is. Helping the students to see that numbers/grades are NOT the goal - but helping them through MY attitude and verbiage. And then considering the 5 key points -
Celebrate mistakes as opportunities to learn something new
Always focus on the process of learning - where are we at today, as compared to yesterday?
