Welcome! I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Political Science, Emory University. I earned my PhD in Politics at New York University. My research focuses on the comparative politics of civil war, counterinsurgency, and conflict resolution, with a particular emphasis on the Philippines. My area of expertise covers both communist and Muslim insurgencies. I employ a blend of quantitative and qualitative methods to study contemporary civil conflicts and political dynamics in developing countries.
My dissertation projects seek to understand the role of various local intermediaries in the conflict and peace processes in the Philippines. Based on detailed statistical data of indigenous territories and mining permits combined with qualitative in-field interviews, I demonstrate that indigenous privileges have resulted in the entanglement of indigenous peoples in the armed conflict between the government and the communists. The responses by local leadership and mining firms drive the unintended consequences of these progressive institutions for minority rights.
Before NYU, I earned my M.A. and B.A. at the Department of Advanced Social and International Studies, the University of Tokyo.
