According to the sources at the Uzbek civil aviation authority, there are only three of these IL-114-100 in a flight-ready condition; the rest of the aircraft are in maintenance or storage. Personnel involved in aircraft operation and maintenance will be retrained and this process has already begun. The withdrawal from scheduled service of these turboprop aircraft may occur in the next month or two.

In the summer of 2015, the IL-114-100 of Uzbekistan Airways delivered a regular domestic schedule to Bukhara, Karshi, Navoi, Termez, Urgench, Nukus and Fergana; as well as flights to nearby CIS countries. The duration of the shortest flight (Tashkent-Navoi) was 55 minutes, the longest (Tashkent-Nukus) was 2 hours 20 minutes.

Routine supervisory visits are part of my role as medical coordinator for MSF activities here in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. They start with an early Monday morning, 2-hour flight in an antiquated Yak or Antanov from my base in the Uzbekistan capital of Tashkent to Nukus, capital of the Karakalpakstan region. After a quick trip to the MSF office there to meet the local and regional project teams, I'm off by car with the team's physician and nurse to visit the TB hospitals in the districts where DOTS has been implemented. We started with 2 pilot sites and have now committed to rolling out DOTS across the Aral Sea area of both countries.

This ICAO Category II airport is the primary hub of Uzbekistan Airways, and is the largest international airport in Uzbekistan, and the busiest in Central Asia. The airport comprises two terminals: Terminal 2 receives international flights, Terminal 3 is for domestic traffic.[2]

In March 1995, Uzbekistan Airways started flights from Tashkent to New York via Riga. It used Airbus A310s on the route.[3][4][5] Terminal 2 was rebuilt in 2001, and renovations were completed in 2018. It has a capacity of 1000 passengers/hour and serves more than two million passengers per year. Facilities include waiting lounges, CIP and VIP halls, restaurants and bars, currency exchange offices, duty-free shops, airlines ticket counters and sales offices, and a 24-hour pharmacy.

Terminal 3 opened in 2011 with a capacity of 400 passengers per hour. The two terminals are separated by the runway, requiring passengers transiting from international to domestic flights and vice versa to exit the airport in order to transfer between them.[citation needed] In July 2017, Uzbekistan Airways began offering nonstop service to New York using its Boeing 787 fleet.[6][7] 2351a5e196
