I have some questions about this: If I log in to an IM client with my Gmail account, can I talk to people who have me under my Hotmail account without them noticing at all? More importantly, should I bother? Is there any advantage to chatting from Gmail instead of Hotmail?

However, most of these IM apps have opened up their chat protocols so that third party tools could be written to access them. What this has done is opened the door to folks to create their own applications that aggregate all of these chat networks into a single hub for you to interact with. You typically dont't have the feature base that a single IM client provides, but you gain the benefit of being able to view them all simultaneously, without having to fire up multiple chat client apps at once.

You might look into an online application called Meebo, which would allow you to log in to your GTalk and your MSN Messenger at the same time. Its web based, so you can access it from nearly anywhere, and quite handy when you have multiple chat platforms that you want to keep dibs on.

It is still possible to search in the chat app for a specific word/phrase, or to see the history of a conversation with a specific person, but the ability to pull these things up in gmail disappeared on Dec 7th.

The one clue is that when searching "in:chats, from:@.com" and clicking on the 'Messages' button, I see, "[Organization redacted] search operators are not yet supported in Chat" at the top, and at the bottom a message, "There are additional items in your Classic Hangouts archive that match this search." If I click on that link, it shows me the same list of chat messages that ends on Dec 7th. This makes me think that this change has something to do with hangouts >> chat transition, but my goog-fu has proven ineffective.

Google Chat is available at no additional cost for individual use at chat.google.com and comes as part of your Workspace subscription for professional use. Not a Google Workspace customer yet? Try it here.

Using third-party IM services based on XMPP to chat with Gmail contacts could sound as the best alternative at this time, but Google Talk app for Windows was deprecated on February 25, 2015. According to fippo, on March 2, 2015, in No, its not the end of xmpp for Google Talk...

But a new UI redesign introduces a chat-like interface that makes responding easier and faster. Instead of the traditional reply buttons, the new design shows a chat-style bubble at the bottom of the message.

It was just a few months ago that Google introduced a "Help Me Write" feature for Gmail that actually uses AI to compose an email. Like other AI chat programs, it asks for a prompt of what you want the message to say and spits out a response.

To chat in Google Docs, share a document with the person you want to chat with, then select the Show Chat icon (the person and the speech bubble) in the upper-right corner of the screen.

In the chat window, select the person's name or the three-dot menu > Turn Off History. Then, select Delete conversation to permanently delete your chat history.

We are excited to announce that Google Chat will be replacing classic Google Hangouts in Gmail! Google Chat is an evolution of classic Hangouts, adding additional features that let you chat with individuals, send group messages, and engage in team-based collaboration with rooms across the entire university community and externally.

Starting July 15, 2020, Google Chat will become the default option for direct (one-to-one) messages, group messages, and team-based room discussions within Gmail. When this happens, all previous classic Hangouts desktop, mobile, and browser applications will be disabled, and you will be directed by Google to go to chat.google.com or to download the Google Chat mobile app.

Guys I think you misunderstood. I want to find a way to clean up conversations just like how outlook does. Outlook has an option called clean up. It cleans up the conversation thread but keeping only the latest email. I need something like this for gmail

Even with "New" Gmail i completely miss this feature when working from my laptop. Im really trying to move away from Outlook in general but Gmail just lacks so many features even compared to other email platforms (like consumer Outlook.com) that i feel less efficient using it. Calendar reminders in Outlook are superior, but not being able to clean up my conversations is a deal breaker. I mostly enjoy how gmail handles email threads more than Outlook's conversation view, but that doesn't mean I want 10 redundant emails in the horrible executive email chains telling us to do dumb shit all the time. Even if gmail mostly hides redundant messages they often pop up randomly or require formatting/deleting to print out well (because sometimes execs need paper proof that you emailed them to protest said dumb shit.

If you use Gmail to provide the latest updates to your customers via email, you can also keep in touch with your employees using Gmail's Chat feature. You can send and receive instant messages, making communication a lot faster. To improve your chat experience, you can change your Gmail Chat settings easily and turn Chat on or off, configure the history, and enable or disable sounds and emoticons. You can configure the Gmail Chat settings right from your account's Settings page with just a few clicks.

Even if you use Google Chat and Google Meet, the new Gmail buttons aren't particularly good. Google Chat made the inexplicable decision to separate one-to-one chats from group chats (or "Spaces" in the Google Chat parlance). Just like the mobile app, the new Gmail makes the critical mistake of not displaying both of these sections on the same screen. Half of your chats will be in the "Chat" section, group chats will be in the "Spaces" section, and you'll have to click to move between them. The old Gmail and the chat.google.com website show all your chats in a stacked sidebar, with group and one-to-one chats still split into separate sections but shown on a single screen. The website or old Gmail is a much nicer interface for this reason.

Generative AI has been the hottest topic in tech this year after San Francisco startup OpenAI introduced the ChatGPT chatbot in November and watched it quickly go viral. ChatGPT lets users ask a question or make a request and responds with answers that are surprisingly sophisticated and creative. The top technology companies are now rushing to work similar capabilities into their own products.

The application lets users save their chat history for easy searching later and click an "off the record" option so that no conversation with that person going forward is saved by either party until they choose to go back on the record.

Yahoo Mail indicates to users when their Yahoo Messenger contacts are online and allows them to launch a dialog with them instantly, as well as letting them make voice calls. It also allows users to check their voice mail and launch voice calling from Yahoo Mail. America Online's AIM Triton offers integrated e-mail, instant messaging, SMS text messaging and voice and video chat.

Automatic updates your status automatically based on your activity, Do not disturb mutes all chat notifications, and Set as away permanently shows that you are not available.

Take full control of your chat experience and make it a seamless and efficient part of your daily workflow. Looking to use Google Chat more? Here's how to create Rooms for larger communications.

I want to set up a chat service that would allow people to chat with our department (we are a library at a hospital system). Our hospital uses Microsoft Teams for the most part, and so us three librarians all have Teams accounts that could be used to chat. However, it would be preferable to set it up so that it chats with the main library e-mail account, which is a Gmail. Is this possible? Thank you.

Otherwise, based on our research, users can sign in to Teams using gmail account. You will be asked to sign in with your Gmail account and create a Microsoft account with it. For more details, you may refer to the video.

The bad formatting is a weird problem. While trying the block in all major browsers we had the problem the first time we opened the chat div but closing it and reopening it seemed to solve the problem... strange...

is it possible to have the pop up chat windows stay at the bottom of the page when you move about the site. e.g. if you start chating to someone on the home page and then you go to a course page, can the chat window come with you?

I have Chat Console installed on one of our courses. As the admin I see the block and it tells me who is logged in. When I click on a name, a chat window opens in the lower left screen and I can send a message. But the window does not open in the recipient's screen. When we tested it locally, we found the recipient could not see a list of any participants in the Chat Console block, even though the block was visible and people were logged into the course.

I have the same problem as Aliyah. I'm using moodle 2.2.1+ and "successfully" installed this chat block, but it's not working. The message-window keeps being empty, no matter what or whom I'm writing. ff782bc1db
