I am a fourth-year PhD student in the Division of Biostatistics and Demography at the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, India. Previously, I completed my M.Phil. and Master's degrees in Biostatistics and Demography from IIPS, Mumbai, in 2021 and 2020, respectively, with support from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India (GoI). I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Statistics from Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan, India.
I am primarily interested in structural changes in families and households in South Asian Countries. Initially, I began my PhD work with Prof. K. S. James, Senior Visiting Scholar, Newcomb Institute, Tulane University, USA, and a Former Director of IIPS, Mumbai. At the Department of Fertility and Social Demography, IIPS, I am currently working with Dr. Srinivas Goli on exploring the various familial patterns in Indian families, coupled with modernization and demographic transitional events that have occurred over the decades.
From September 2021 to June 2022, I worked as a Research Officer on a project entitled 'Demographic and Health Surveys and its Quality in India: A Program to Develop Survey Research' at IIPS, Mumbai. This project is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation via the Population Council, New York. Previously, I worked as a summer research intern at the Population Studies Unit (PSU) of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in Kolkata.
Besides research, I devote my time to playing the violin and listening to classical music, as well as exploring different musical instruments from around the world. I am deeply passionate about exploring the world, particularly its historical sites and the diverse cultural communities that inhabit it.
