# About Tap Pay
Tap Pay is a merchant point-of-sale app for Android and iOS. It helps staff take card payments in person and review whether those payments completed, stayed pending, or failed.
It is built for authorized merchants and their teams. It is not a consumer wallet, personal banking app, or shopping app.
## What Tap Pay does
Merchants sign in with their account, enter an amount and currency, and enter card details in the app — by contactless tap on supported Android devices, by scanning the card with the camera, or by typing them in. Tap Pay then sends that checkout to the payment API.
If 3-D Secure is required for the card, a verification page opens in a WebView. Otherwise the app goes to the payment status screen. Afterward, staff can search and review transactions, including failed attempts, with checkout identifiers and status.
## Payments
Tap Pay starts the checkout on the device. Card details and related payment data are sent to the payment API so the charge can be processed. Settlement, fees, chargebacks, refunds, and payouts follow the merchant’s agreement with the payment processor.
A status shown in the app reflects what the payment service reported. It is not a guarantee that funds have settled.
## Camera and contactless
Camera access is used only to read payment card details for checkout. Text recognition runs on the device. Tap Pay does not save scanned photos to the gallery as part of this feature.
On Android devices with NFC, Tap Pay can read contactless EMV card data — typically card number, expiry, and cardholder name — to complete a payment. NFC is not used in the background. If NFC is unavailable, staff can scan with the camera or enter details manually where the flow allows it.
## On the device
After sign-in, Tap Pay keeps a session on that device so staff can keep working. Optional saved logins store the email and an encrypted password in the device’s secure storage. Theme preference and cached account settings stay on the device until sign-out or until saved logins are deleted.
## Platforms
Tap Pay runs on Android and iOS. Contactless card reading requires a compatible Android device with NFC turned on.
