Philomena ‘Phil’ Katyadita Develsbourne was born in 1946 to a Dutch-American artist mother and a Javanese priyayi architect father at a remote village in Kuningan named Paterosari, with her twin sister, Matilda.
She moved back to Indonesia in 2012 after traveling the world and going through three marriages for 40 years. She currently works as a counselor.
Deborah 'Debby' Tabitha was born in 1974 in a goat pen in Jakarta to teenage parents that had to run away from their village in Jogjakarta out of shame. Deborah's mother and Tante Phil are cousins.
She currently lives in Jakarta, doing anything she can to provide for her two daughters. Her husband is (allegedly) lost at sea.
Tanya Tante and its two characters are the creations of A.P. Wardhana, who plays both roles. In the tradition of the agony aunt advice columns that often appear in newspapers and magazines, both characters give out advice based on questions from people. Whether or not they want to follow their advice, that's up to them. Our motto is "Do what you want, it's your life".
