Thank you for using TanX. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use the TanX app (the "App"), an SPF, sun-safety, and UV-tracking app that provides UV forecasts, tanning guidance, and optional skin analysis based on your input.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
1.1 Information You Provide
TanX does not require you to create an account. Some features rely on information you choose to provide, including:
- Onboarding answers — your tanning goals, sunscreen habits, preferred shade, and similar preferences you select during setup, used to personalize recommendations. This is stored on your device.
- Selfie / skin scan (optional) — if you use the skin-analysis feature, your camera captures a photo that is analyzed on your device to estimate characteristics such as skin type and tone. The photo is processed locally and is not uploaded to or stored on our servers. You can skip this feature at any time.
- Support and feedback — if you contact us, we receive your email address and any information you include.
1.2 Location Data
To show accurate UV index values, sun times, and the best tanning window for where you are, the App requests access to your device location. Location is used to retrieve local weather and UV data and is not sold or used to identify you. You can grant, limit, or revoke location access at any time in your device Settings; without it, you can still view UV data for locations you add manually.
1.3 Usage & Device Data
We may collect non-personal information such as device type, operating system version, app version, general usage patterns, and diagnostic/crash data. This helps us understand how the App is used, fix problems, and improve features.
1.4 Subscription & Purchase Data
TanX offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions ("TanX Pro"). Payments and subscription management are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details. We may receive anonymized purchase status from Apple to unlock Pro features.
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
- To calculate and display UV index, forecasts, sun times, recommended SPF, and tanning windows.
- To personalize sun-safety recommendations based on your onboarding answers and optional skin analysis.
- To provide reminders and notifications you enable (e.g., high-UV alerts or reapply reminders).
- To operate subscriptions and unlock Pro features.
- To analyze anonymized usage trends and improve the App's reliability and features.
3. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
TanX relies on trusted third-party services to function. These may include:
- Apple WeatherKit and Open-Meteo — to source weather and UV data for your location.
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — to process and manage subscriptions.
- Google Firebase — for anonymized analytics, remote configuration, and crash reporting.
These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them. TanX may also contain links to external sites; we are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.
4. DATA RETENTION & STORAGE
Personalization data (onboarding answers, session logs, and skin-analysis results) is stored locally on your device and is removed if you delete the App. Selfie images are processed on-device and are not retained by us. Anonymized analytics may be retained by our service providers for as long as needed to operate their services.
5. DATA SECURITY
We take reasonable precautions to safeguard any information we process, using industry-standard security measures. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
TanX is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
7. YOUR CHOICES
You control your data. You can revoke camera, location, or notification permissions in your device Settings, skip the skin scan, and delete locally stored data by removing the App. To request deletion of any information you have sent us directly (such as support messages), contact us using the details below.
8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review it periodically.
