Course Objective
In this course, we will introduce some algorithmic techniques developed for handling large amounts of data.
Background
There is no official pre-requisite for this course. However, a background and a level of comfort in Discrete Mathematics, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, and Probability and Statistics will be crucial in order to follow the course contents.

Grading Policy
Major exam 45%
Minor exam 25%
Assignments 15% There will be 1-2 homework assignments distributed throughout the semester.
Quizzes 10% There will be surprise quizzes at the start of some lectures. If missed, you will not get a chance to retake such a quiz.
Class participation 5%
Reference materials
The official syllabus can be found here. At some parts, we may deviate from the syllabus, but this should not be significant.
We will be using various reference materials, such as those mentioned in the syllabus document or other sources which will be provided on the Classroom.
Class schedule and Location
The classes will be held in slot H. The timings are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 3 to 3:50 PM.

Attendance Policy
Institute policy regarding attendance will be strictly followed. Attendance will be marked in each class.
There will be surprise quizzes taken every now and then, which will have a total of 10 percent of grade overall. You are required to be physically present for the quiz and no make-up quiz will be offered regardless of any reason – valid or otherwise.
