Philippine Cultural College, Main - Student Council (PCCM-SC) organized a donation drive and raised P247,530 to help victims of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses, which recently struck several parts of the Philippines.
The donations were turned over to the SC’s partner organizations, such as AKAP Pamilya in Bicol, Councilor Jamayne Tan of Santiago, Isabela, the Marikina Private School Administrators’ Association, and the Center for Development Arts Manila under Mr. Baldwin Kho. The relief efforts focused on the plight of students and children who were affected by the typhoons.
Luzon was especially hit hard by these two typhoons. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), over a million people were evacuated due to Typhoon Rolly, and another 350,000 were evacuated from Typhoon Ulysses. Aside from the Marikina schools and the urban poor in Tondo, donations collected were also given through the organizations to barangays Mabini, Cabulay, Sinsayon, and Nabbuan in Santiago, Isabela and Camarines Norte in Bicol.
The drive initially began on November 5, and was set to last until November 15. However, the arrival of typhoon Ulysses compelled the extension of the donation drive until November 20. Students were all encouraged to donate, or to ask their parents to donate in their stead.
