TONDO, Manila - Philippine Cultural College (PCC) Manila concluded the anticipated Supreme Student Government (SSG) elections held on July 16, 2025 (Wednesday), following the Miting de Avance on July 14 (Monday). The election marked the official rebranding of the former Student Council (SC) to SSG, symbolizing a renewed commitment to a sincere and credible student leadership within the PCC community.
Two competing parties, Bisig (Yellow) and Tinig (Green), presented their proposed platforms for school year 2025-2026. The event was divided into two sessions, accommodating grades 4-6 in the morning and grades 7-12 in the afternoon.
Dr. Sining Marcos Kotah, Vice President of PCC Manila, officially opened the event by emphasizing informed voting.
“Of course we have our personal preferences. But the preferences should be hooked and rooted on the basis that these people will be able to guide and serve the student body. That’s why we call them the Supreme Student Government,” Dr. Kotah said.
Prior to the Miting de Avance, both Bisig and Tinig conducted room-to-room campaigns, visiting grade school pupils on July 7, 2025 (Monday) and high school students on July 9, 2025 (Wednesday). These campaigns were avenues for the candidates to introduce themselves, present videos, provide candidate cards, and engage directly with the student body.
The PCC Main-Commission on Elections (PCC Main-COMELEC) outlined the election process and guidelines. Students were instructed to find their respective precincts posted on the five strategically placed bulletin boards within the auditorium. They were instructed to affix a thumbprint on their ballot sheet and use a black ballpoint pen to fully shade the circle next to their preferred candidates. An elector would assist with a second thumbprint before casting the votes into the ballot box, followed by the application of indelible ink on the right index finger. With the thumbprint and indelible ink on the right index finger, it shows that the voter has completed the voting process. Failure to follow the guidelines would result in vote forfeiture. Voters were reminded to vote for a maximum of six candidates. Exceeding this limit would void the ballot.
Following the outline of election guidelines, each party was allotted 20 minutes to present its platforms.
The Tinig Party, guided by Mr. Aivan Jhoshua Arrojo, consisted of Jozyr Benoit DY (#01), Kervin LIN (#03), Ralfhnethan MAHINAY (#05), Sofia Louise SHI (#08), Jessica WANG (#11), and Simsim Jen ZHUANG (#13). To start off, they gave the audience a dance number to the song “Like Jennie”. They then proposed a four-part program focusing on Cleanliness, Campus Vibes, Academic Growth, and Wellness. Their projects included “The Bidet and Toilet Paper,” “Keep it Clean, Win a Pizza Party,” “Junior High Prom,” “Comfy to School,” “PCC Guinness,” “PCC Voice,” “SSG Merch,” “Academic Race,” “Study Room,” and “Fun Run.” They concluded their presentation with their song titled, “Simula”.
The Bisig Party, guided by Ms. Rose Anne Ferrer, began its presentation with an introductory dance number to the song “Shake it Off”. The Bisig candidates were Jane Erish LAO (#02), Aleeya Rose LUMBOS (#04), Enzo Gabriel RAVARA (#06), Selina Jasmine SHI (#07), Ashley TAN (#09), Jimmy TAN (#10), and Kristel Ann WANG (#12). Their proposals included “Weekly Riddles,” “Cursive Writing Contest,” “Spotify Playlist of the Week,” “Classroom Challenge,” “PCC Marathon,” “PCC 303,” “Improv Show,” “Trash to Art,” “Translation Contest,” “Video Editing Contest,” and “Debate.”
Following the presentations, a Question-and-Answer segment tested the candidates’ ability to speak publicly and justify their platforms. A key question asked why candidates believed they should be chosen as student leaders, the Tinig Party highlighted passion, dedication to service, and leadership experience, while the Bisig Party prioritized their commitment to making school enjoyable through feasible programs.
During the afternoon session, first-time candidates were asked to identify their priority program if elected. Ralfhnethan MAHINAY (#05) of Tinig Party prioritized improving comfort room hygiene, and Kristel Ann WANG (#11) of Bisig Party recommended the use of suggestion boxes.
Finally, Mrs. Peggie T. Gan, Head of the Office of Student Affairs, gave her closing remarks. In addition, Bianca Claire Dela Cruz, Chairperson of the PCC Main-COMELEC concluded the program with the tagline, “With integrity and for the betterment of the student community,” urging PCCians to vote for candidates whom they believed would help PCC achieve its vision and mission of Integrity in Excellence.
The morning program was hosted by Sofia de Leon, while Nia Maise Gan and Angelo Magullado hosted the afternoon session.
PCCians from grades 4 to 12 cast their votes in the auditorium. The election was supervised by Bianca Claire dela Cruz of PCC Main-COMELEC, Ms. Jessica Pearl Chua, and Mrs. Gan. In addition, Dr. Kotah conducted an inspection of the ballot boxes and voting paraphernalia, ensuring a clean and transparent election process.
