Four PCC Senior High School papers were accepted for presentation at the 3rd De La Salle University Senior High School Research Congress 2021 held last April 29 to 30, with the theme “Reframing Possibilities through Research and Innovation for the Better Normal”.
Three research papers from the Humanities and the Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand and one business concept paper from the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand were qualified for presentation based on an evaluation by the congress’ organizing team. The proponents that comprised the PCC Main delegation were Hiraya Marcos (12B-HUMSS), Chandrea Elise Uy (12B-HUMSS), Hazel Lao (12B-HUMSS), Eunice Lao (12B-ABM), and Winnie Angelica Li (12A-ABM). They were accompanied by their research project advisers, Mr. Roberto Lim Jr. for HUMSS, and Mr. Oscar Deo Dacuba for ABM.
The research congress began on April 29 live on YouTube. The proceedings commenced with opening remarks from DLSU President Br. Raymundo B. Suplido FSC where he mentioned that, "The first and second editions of the research congress have proven to be a good avenue for research endeavors of our Senior High School students." This was followed by the highlights from the previous research congress. After the opening program, plenary talks were held for each strand, where the students and the advisers were encouraged to attend.
The plenary talk was followed by parallel sessions. Attendees were invited to join one of several Zoom meetings during the allotted time slots to watch paper presentations, business concept presentations, poster presentations, or art performances and exhibitions. Specialized training was also offered to the teachers.
Marcos presented her paper entitled WEARING CUT SLEEVES: Unpacking Narratives of Coming Out by Chinese Filipino LGBTQIA+ under the theme Gender, Human Development and the Individual. Hazel Lao presented her paper entitled A Semiotic Analysis of the Thriller Films “Mother!” (2017) and “Parasite” (2019), and Uy presented her paper entitled Analyzing the Depictions of Queer Struggles in Selected Asian BL Series, both under the theme Media and Philippine Studies. The business concept for Ho Tsia was presented by Eunice Lao and Winnie Angelica Li during the Business Concept Bazaar.
As the two-day virtual congress came to an end, the chancellor of DLSU, Br. Bernard S. Oca FSC gave an inspirational message to all the students, “I am challenging you to continue asking the right questions and discovering new ways of answering them in these uncertain times.” After his message, the awarding of certificates was led by Mr. Christian P. Gopez, and closing remarks were given by the Vice Chancellor for DLSU Laguna Campus, Dr. Gil Nonato C. Santos.
Truly, our student researchers brought pride to our Alma Mater.
