The first ever online academic week in PCC kicked off with the English Department’s program entitled “Lights, Camera, English in Action" Goes Wired. The program was held on January 25, and showcased the skills and creativity of the junior high school students.
The department held different competitions for each grade level by utilizing different online platforms and editing applications. The students shone through with their skills and creativity to wow the judges.
The Grade 7 Storytelling Competition came first, with each of the six contestants creatively telling a story before a virtual audience. The competition's judges were English teachers Mr. Winston Gangan and Ms. Christine Joy Estrella, and PCC Main Vice President for Basic Education Dr. Sining Kotah.
The Grade 8 Couch Critic Competition showcased the students' critical thinking and analysis skills, as well as their English speaking skills, as they each created a movie review for the consideration of the judges. The competition was judged by Senior High School (SHS) teachers Ms. Rocel Verzosa, Mr. Roberto Lim Jr., and Mrs. Sheryl Bilgera.
The Cosplay Con: TikTok Competition for the Grade 9 students had contestants dressing up or “cosplaying” as their favorite book or movie characters and creating TikToks out of these. The competition was judged by elementary science teacher Ms. Bianca Alican, SHS mathematics teacher Mr. Oscar Deo Dacuba, and FilSocMATLE Coordinator Mr. Daryl Teves.
Last was the My Life During Quarantine: Vlogging Competition of the Grade 10 students. In this segment, the students produced creative vlogs to show their daily lives and routines during the quarantine. The competition was judged by English teacher Ms. Heidi Reyes, ITC personnel Mr. Mike Bryan Arcega, and former PCC mathematics teacher Mr. Jeric Callanta.
Intermission numbers were prepared between competitions. The numbers included a song rendition of When Will My Life Begin from the movie Tangled, performed by selected Grade 7 students, a Mini Quiz Bee for all Junior High School students on Quizizz, and a compilation of Tiktok videos of the teachers and administrators.
