GRADUATING HUMSS CLASS HOLDS STUDENT FORUM
by Marvin Andrew Co (10A) | April 27, 2021
With the title Modern Sages: A Humanities and Social Sciences Forum, a student-ran webinar was held by the Grade- 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) class for the Grades 9 to 10 students via Zoom Videoconferencing last April 16, 2021.
The forum served as the culminating activity for the strand’s work immersion course. The program proceedings, hosted by Jennylyn Wu, started with the opening ceremonies of the event. It was then followed by a keynote lecture by Mr. Roberto Lim Jr. who introduced the study of HUMSS and provided a background for the next lectures conducted by his selected students.
There were four student lecturers in the event. Sexual Orientation, Gender identity, and Gender Expression (SOGIE) was the first lecture conducted by Hiraya Marcos. “We should be allowed to express ourselves however we want because in the end, we’re all equal, and we’re all people put on this earth,” she said. The second lecture centered on Introspection and Reflection, where student lecturer Jeanine Garcia mentioned that, “By reflecting, you understand more of yourself as you analyze your thoughts and feelings in a deeper way.” The third topic was all about Cancel Culture and Cyber Ethics, where student lecturer Hazel Lao argues that, “Just because something is popular, it doesn’t make it a good thing.” The fourth lecture tackled Political Ideologies, wherein student lecturer Vaughn Yongco expressed that, “It is the leader we chose that dictates the future of our nation.”
An intermission featuring a mini-game with GCash prizes was also held between the second and third student lectures. The game consisted of multiple choice questions relating to the junior high school subjects of Araling Panlipunan, Filipino, and English. The event concluded with an open forum session with the student lecturers.
Grade 12-HUMSS class beadle Chandrea Uy served as the project’s overall student-in-charge, while Jayden Garcia served as the project’s creative director.
