On September 1, 2021, the English Department relaunched its programs for academic year 2021-2022, with the title “Permission to Read”.
Ms. Ghie from Scholastic delivered a read-aloud session and a student orientation on the annual Scholastic Learning Zone for high school students, while ITC Staff Mrs. Mary Jane Macawili delivered a read-aloud session for grade school students and Mr. Ric Roxas oriented the grade school pupils on the use of the new Highlights Library (HLL).
Mrs. Sheryl Bilgera and Mr. Winston Gangan notified the students about the relaunching of the DEARHome (Drop Everything And Read) Program which will be held once every week for 15 minutes of a specific time period during class. They also mentioned the CSEP (Caught Speaking in English Program) which will once again be implemented like how it had been back when face-to-face classes were still held.
The school’s librarian, Mr. Raymond Robert Santos, gave an orientation regarding the school’s online library. Mr. Santos reiterated the institution's partnership with Highlights Library and LitPro User, and followed it with an orientation about PCC’s Online Library wherein students can access tons of books that can be utilized not only for entertainment purposes, but also in academic tasks like writing a research paper.
A book talk by students was also a highlight of the program, where grade schoolers Angelo Magullado (5A), Angelica Laurice Ding (5A), and Vania Sophia Tiu (6A), ABM Senior Abbygail Ching, STEM teacher Ms. Rocel Verzosa, ABM teacher Mr. Leonard Catubay, PCC HUMSS alumna Hiraya Marcos, and SHS Head Teacher Mr. Roberto Lim Jr. briefly discussed a favorite book of theirs.
“PCCians are fortunate as the education PCC provides comes from a trilingual viewpoint.” “The pandemic shouldn’t really hinder us on our journey, for even if we are at home, we can still travel. We can journey into the scours of imagination and let that make up who we are.” Vice President Dr. Sining M. Kotah said. “Let that not deter us from our path to victory and triumph. In order to become successful, one must allow himself or herself to be a good and exceptional reader," she added.
