The opening of the Sportsfest event at the Philippine Cultural College on November 17, 2023 echoed the timeless words of the legendary Vince Lombardi, who once proclaimed, “It's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.” As the clock struck 1:30 in the afternoon, the rhythmic beat of drums signaled the commencement of a grand spectacle in the main gym, where sport, spirit, and sportsmanship converged in a dazzling display.
Guiding us through this exhilarating journey were the dynamic duo of Jiayuan Syjueco from Grade 12A and Erika Dong from Grade 10B, our spirited hosts for the day.
A thunderous applause heralded the entrance of the true stars of this opening extravaganza—the Basketball, Volleyball, and Chess players, representing the prowess of Grades 7 to 12. Brace yourselves for an awe-inspiring display of talent, passion, and most importantly, sportsmanship as these athletes took center stage. Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for the players of the Philippine Cultural College Sportsfest 2023!
The fearless Fortis Ursanis of Grade 7, the industrious Vires Bellator of Grade 8, the resilient Andreios of Grade 9, the talented Neos Kratos of Grade 10, and the mighty Xanthrons of Grades 11-12—all stood tall, ready to etch their names in the annals of sporting glory.
Before we dove into the heart of the competition, let the strains of our beloved Philippine National Anthem resonate through the gymnasium, a tribute to the nation we proudly represented.
The ethereal Kimberly Chen then graced the stage, weaving a tapestry of inspiration with words that lingered like a sweet melody. And now, as we stood on the precipice of athletic greatness, let us collectively embrace the principles of fair play and respect with the Oath of Sportsmanship, led by the charismatic Ashley Tan.
Behold the torch, a beacon of spirit, knowledge, and life, passed through generations in a relay that symbolized the eternal flame of our sporting heritage. As the torch lit up the arena, we declared with enthusiasm—the games were officially open! Zachary Loa, the maestro of the student council sports committee, stepped forward to make this proclamation, setting the stage for an epic journey.
Dr. Sining Kotah, flanked by the batch representatives of Neos Kratos and Xanthrons, stood united in the middle, a symbolic tableau of unity and pride for the college.
But wait, there was more! Jiayuan Syjueco spilled the beans—each batch had prepared a cheer that promised to ignite the atmosphere. Fortis Ursanis, Vires Bellator, Andreios, Neos Kratos, and Xanthrons—let the cheers reverberate through the gymnasium!
And now, with the collective energy reaching a crescendo, let the games commence! The inaugural clash featured an epic showdown on the basketball court, pitting our dedicated teachers against the spirited students. In a game of skill, strategy, and heart, the teachers emerged victorious, proving that age was just a number when it came to the love of the game.
The free throw was a fleeting moment where one shot could change the course of destiny. The chosen few—Jasper Cai (Grade 7A), Jerry Go (Grade 8), Allen Liu(Grade 9), Stephen Joseph Yan (Grade 10), and Hudson Lin (Grades 11-12)—stepped up to the line, each shot a testament to their skill and nerve.
Volleyball, a dance of agility and finesse, saw the teachers showcasing their prowess in a match that left the audience on the edge of their seats.
As the first chapter of this sporting saga drew to a close, Zachary Loa returned to the stage for closing remarks, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the schedule of upcoming games. The anticipation lingered as we prepared for more thrills, spills, and unforgettable moments in the days to come. The Philippine Cultural College Sportsfest 2023 officially set the stage for a sporting spectacle!
