Philippine Cultural College - Main Campus held its annual Miting de Avance on August 25, 2022. This aimed to showcase what the Student Council candidates had to offer for the school year 2022-2023. This year, the said endeavor was conducted differently from the past years as the program was held through HyFlex modalities.
The two parties that were in the running for positions were the Bisig Party and the Tinig party, whose advisers were Ms. Sheila Marie Reyes and Mr. Oscar Deo Dacuba, respectively. Each party had 15 minutes to present its campaigns, and another 15 minutes to answer questions in the Q&A portion. The two parties drew lots as to who got to present first.
The candidates from the Bisig party had to present themselves first, before the Bisig partyTheir plans were: PCCian’s day, a holiday for PCCians; Collaborations with other school governments; PCCian’s voice, to which students can express their opinions and statements to the Student Council; Spirit week, a week with certain themes for days; and PCCian Merch. The candidates promised more events which would need further approval before implementation.
Similarly, The Tinig party introduced its candidates, and then presented its advocacies for the school year: Be The Sunshine PCCian, a charity program; How Are You PCCian, a week-long event with the student’s mental health in mind; Through the Millenia, a program focused on Chinese attire throughout history; “All About China”, which would include a forum for students from grades 5 to 8, and debate competition for students from grades 9 to 12; and We Bleed Green so We Live Green Merchandise.
After both parties’ presentations were over, the Q&A portion began. Students from Grades 5 to 12 all poured in their questions and queries for the candidates, however, due to the lack of time only a few were tackled.
Dr. Sining M. Kotah, the school’s Vice President, wrapped up the meeting with her final remarks. She urged the students to vote wisely. She expressed her gratitude to the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA) for spearheading the program and thanked the various school departments for their contributions to a memorable comeback election.
Mrs. Sheryl David, head of OSA, concluded the Miting de Avance with a few reminders for the elections to be held on August 26, 2022.
