IT’S A SCAM!

Valentine’s Day for many is the season of love and gift-giving, but why don’t most of them see the very obvious scam behind it?
First of all, the showing of love has become more of an obligation than a genuine token of appreciation. People whose love language isn’t gift-giving feel forced to give bouquets and tons of chocolates to their significant other. They feel like it is a must, spending hundreds or even thousands of pesos just to impress their loved ones.
Second, it is crystal clear that companies are just taking advantage of this day for their marketing tactics. They are having these “Valentine’s Day Promos” that are captivating for people in a relationship or those who want to be in one. All these 30%, 40%, and 50% off on matching things are undoubtedly eye-catching.
Lastly, prices of hotels, restaurants, and even flowers are doubled! I would rather receive something more practical and useful than these flowers that won’t even last a week. Because of the flowers’ demand, the consumers have to pay way more for them. Speaking of the romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, restaurants know all too well that this is a crucial part of your planning. You’ll have to book weeks in advance for a table or you’ll simply end up going to McDonald’s!
Having all of these said, why not sly away from these scams and do something that won’t hurt your pocket? Trying a new activity with your loved one would surely be a memorable experience. Hiking, painting, pottery making, or just simply spending time with each other doing nothing.
Valentine’s Day is a day specifically dedicated to love, but don’t you all think that it should be an everyday thing? After all, what is love if it is only treated grandly during the second week of some random month? What is love, if it is only treated as an obligation by many the moment they are given a certain date to celebrate it? What is love, if the majority would just let themselves be weaved into capitalism’s very own atrocious tapestry, and will call it romance?
Despite the conversation around Valentine’s Day, it definitely is a good day. After all, love is always worth celebrating.
