International Workshop on Tamil Treebank Annotation (WTTA2021)
8th, 9th and 10th April 2021
8th, 9th and 10th April 2021
In natural language processing (NLP), building linguistically annotated corpus plays a vital role. In parsing, treebank is an indispensable syntactically annotated corpus that provides the syntactic structure of the natural languages. Tamil, the Dravidian language has been involved in language technology development for many decades, presently there is a need to develop an efficient syntactic parser to participate in advanced NLP tasks. Though there are a number of linguistic formalisms that have been used in building parsers, as far as South Asian Languages are concerned, the dependency framework is found to be suitable and used de facto in the present research and applications. In WTTA 2021, we try to establish a venue to discuss the treebank building for Tamil based on the dependency framework and issues involved in the annotation. It will host a selected group of invited speakers from the field of Tamil computing, treebank and parsing. A hands-on-experience on Tamil treebank annotation will be provided to the participants.
