I was hired 14 years ago by Chesterfield County Public Schools as a middle school art teacher. I worked ten years at an at-risk middle school, creating programs and curricula from the ground up that are now implemented in all middle schools. Four years ago, I was hired by Professional Learning as a Professional Learning Specialist. At that time, I oversaw the professional development of classified employees in CCPS. Most classified employees do not hold teaching licenses or work directly with students.
After working with classified employees, my role shifted to supporting new educators and the mentoring process. My responsibilities were organizing and providing professional development for new teacher orientation and establishing mentor training with mentors and new employees. Due to staffing changes, my role changed again. This time it was to work with instructional design to create, implement and manage the compliance system for the county.
I have found the most value in understanding and defining the why behind our tasks. The overall effect of this program has not been dedicated to an isolated situation but a multifaceted approach to action that created dynamic change within my division. I applied my skills to suit the needs of those I serve to develop and utilize systems that best serve all employees' needs.
Throughout this work, I uphold my leadership manifesto.
I am committed to leading those in my care to exceed their expectations. Through this work:
I value building community while honoring isolated outcomes.
I value growth through adaptation while honoring the status quo.
I value passion while honoring expertise.
I value iterative improvement while honoring “done.”
