Walter is a character that was introduced in 2022's The Invitation. He is being repurposed as a character in the TVDU.
He is the master of building a story around him, ensuring that he is both feared and respected. Over the years he has gone by many names, including a famed count from Carpathian Mountains. He came to England in the 1800s, setting up life in New Carfax Abbey. It was there that he met a penniless witch who struck a deal with him --- she would help him amass power if he helped her family lines prosper. The spell she crafted tied him to three lines. They would all be stronger together. From each family, Walter chose a 'bride', turning them to soldify their connection. If his bride befell any tragedy, the family line was required to produce another suitable woman to take her place.
And for centuries, this arrangement worked. Walter became the power in his little corner of England and the families attached to him also propered, never wanting for anything. Unfortunately trouble was brewing. His bride from the Alexander line could no longer stomach being a vampire. She took her own life, leaving an open the Alexander family had trouble filling. For the last few decades, they only had sons. It seemed the entire spell was under threat of collapse until a distant cousin in America was found.
Immediately plans were made to bring this Evie to England for her wedding to Walter. He was able to charm her until she was comfortable enough to trust him. It was then his true identity was revealed. However, Evie was not going down without a fight. In the end, she brought down the house of De Ville, leaving Walter without any 'wives' and badly hurt.
Walter emerged from the ashes of his ruined empire, needing revenge but also desperate to claw back the power that had been taken from him. He is now traveling the world once more, in search of ways to once again climb on top.
Please note that Walter's canon is mostly based on the movie but he will have the same powers and limitations as a vampire in the TVDU.
It is strongly implied in movie canon that Walter was once Count Dracula. For now, I will only continue to make vague references to that idea.
In the film, he had three brides much like Dracula did in the novel. It was explained that this gave him and the families from which the brides came from power and wealth. I added the magic connection to tie it closer to the feel of the TVDU.
If you haven't watched The Invitation (which I think is a fun take on the Dracula mythos) I would give it a spin. If you don't know who Walter is, I would just treat him as an OC with some connections to the ideas of Dracula.
He is a charming man but some of that is an act to get what he wants. He has viewed women as a means to an end and does care for his 'wives' in some way but it is more about control than love.
Evie nearly destroyed him and he is stung by this, believing he had offered great power which she spurned. He is not in any position for real love and I don't know how if he ever will be.
But he will probably flirt with you. Those are the rules.
