What is it?
The most refined version of Home-Row Mods available. ⭐⭐⭐(Compared to standard HRMs)
Advanced Home-Row Mods (HRM) with Bilateral Combination Enforcement is an advanced version of Home-Row Mods. In this setup, home-row modifier keys (like Ctrl, Shift, or Alt) are triggered only when combined with a key pressed by the opposite hand. This approach minimizes errors while promoting a more balanced and comfortable typing experience.
⚠ Using BHRM version requires a different layout file, get it here.
Why does this matter?
Fewer Mistakes: Say goodbye to accidental modifier key presses. With both-hand activation, every modifier is intentional—even when typing fast or one-handed.
More Comfortable Typing It prevents awkward hand stretches or finger strain caused by pressing two keys with the same hand.
Why the extra layers?
Sunaku designed these bilateral combinations with a two-level hold-tap hierarchy, which requires these additional layers.
Q: For opposite hand, shouldn't hold-trigger-key-positions be enough?
A: No, more layers are needed for the system to correctly handle key releases and the sequence of actions during opposite-hand key presses. Read more

When it comes to HRM, a one-size-fits-all set of settings just doesn’t exist. The ZMK HRM Best Practice Values provides best practice configuration options to fine-tune key hold timings, activation thresholds, and ergonomic adjustments for optimal performance.
