About the Tahitian Historical Society
The Tahitian Historical Society was created in 1925 by M. Medford Ross KELLUM.
THS is a non-profit organization managed by a group of prominent citizens dedicated to preserving historical materials, presenting public lectures, engaging in research on the history of Tahiti and the South Pacific, with a strong focus on experimental archaeology.
As a leading organization providing information on the history of Tahiti and the South Pacific, we present free public lectures.
Mission Statement
The Tahitian Historical Society is a center of research dedicated to a deeper understanding of the Polynesian history. Through its collections and scholarly pursuits, the Society seeks to nurture a greater appreciation for Polynesian migration and history, for the ideas, values, successes, that bind us together as a group of nation.
The Tahitian Historical Society will continue to be recognized as a distinguished institution of Polynesian history, a thriving center for research, and a respected voice for the importance of understanding our nation’s past.
The Society's programs and exhibitions will celebrate the perspective Polynesian history brings to our own time and illustrate how it sustains our way of life and guides our future.
