random means to select something without bias.

bias means to favour something during the selection process.

eg Selecting a student from a class by asking who has a pet

a random number is a number that is selected without bias between 1 and any number required.

A coin is a flat cylinder, used for money. It can be used when the probability of an event is 50%.

A die is a regular 3-dimensional (3D) shape that has numbers on it.

The most common die is a sixed sided cube with numbers 1 to 6 marked on each side. 

The numbers are arranged so that opposite sides of the die add up to 7.

eg 1 is opposite to 6, 2 is opposite to 5 and 3 is opposite to 4.

When you have more than one die, they are called dice. The plural of die is dice.

A spinner is a wheel with numbers allocated to randomly pick a number.

A pack of cards is a pack of 52 cards used for many playing games. It can also be used for many probability events.

Note: there are 52 cards WITHOUT jokers.

There are two red suits, diamonds and hearts and two black suits, clubs and spades - for a probability of 1 out of 2

There are four suits (diamonds, hearts, spades, clubs) - probability of 1 out of 4

There are 13 of each suit (Ace = 1 through to King = 13) - probability of 1 out of 13

There are 3 of each suit that are picture cards - probability 12 out of 52 or 3 out of 13

Plus whatever else combinations you can determine from the cards.

Any other random number generator (from paper to calculator to online tool) can be used to determine a random number.

A random number is a number between 1 and n (any number require for a specific event to take place).

A bag of marbles is a bag containing a number of coloured marbles.

eg there are 13 marbles in this bag; 3 green, 5 blue and 5 red.

P(selecting a red marble at random) = 5 out of 13
