Linear means a graph or function or sequence of numbers is (or nearly is) a straight-line.

Example 1

A sequence of numbers increasing by the same amount every time, produces a 2-dimensional (2D) graph called a linear graph.

Example 2

A straight-line graph (y = 2x - 3) in the Cartesian Plane is an example of a linear function.

The data of daily temperature vs sales of ice creams appears to increasing with a linear trend.
