Tadalafil is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction-ED or impotence. Tadalafil works to increase the blood flow to the penis which helps to maintain and erection. Tadalafil can also be used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. It works to help in reducing the urgency or urination and also the frequency of urination. Tadalafil works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder thus allowing easier control on passing of urine. Tadalafil is from a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE%) inhibitor. Tadalafil has a long half life of 17.5 hours which allows a longer therapeutic window. Tadalafil is taken via oral ingestion and is absorbed as a low solubility and high permeability drug. It takes 2 hours for tadalafil to reach maximum concentration.
