In 2015, the Department of Public Works gathered the Burlington Fire Department, Police Department, Local Motion, and residents and advocates from the community to develop a policy and guide for short-term, community-led projects on our streets. With experience gained from local demonstrations projects, case studies from across the country, and direction from international experts on tactical urbanism, the Community-Led Demonstration Project Policy and Guide has been developed.

The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) has created a new guide to assist local applicants in developing, permitting, and installing tactical urbanism projects. This guide was developed with Metro Staff, Barge Design Solutions and Fairpointe Planning and was informed by input from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), Nashville's Vision Zero Advisory Committee, Civic Design Center, and Walk Bike Nashville.

A key goal of this guide is to make it easier for communities across Nashville to install tactical urbanism projects. In early 2024, NDOT will begin providing additional support for applicants including pre-application meetings and access to funding for materials and installation costs within priority zones based on the Vision Zero Action Plan.

Alternatively, Tactical Medicine for Special Operations is the delivery of specialized tactical emergency medical services to casualties of any active law enforcement incident by law enforcement personnel assigned to a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) operations team, as described by California Penal Code 13514.1. Description

The BFTT family of systems (BFTT, BFTT Electronic Warfare Trainer (BEWT), Training Communications Sub-System (TCSS) and the Trainer Simulator Stimulator System (TSSS)) provides coordinated stimulation/simulation of shipboard combat systems to facilitate combat systems team training providing the capability to conduct realistic joint warfare training across the spectrum of armed conflict and conduct realistic unit level team training in all primary warfare areas.

BFTT accomplishes this by establishing a synthetic environment in which a tactical scenario is run. Combat system elements receive information from BFTT to stimulate shipboard tactical equipment, resulting in effective coordinated team training even while in-port. BFTT's ability to simulate friendly, neutral or enemy forces such as aircraft/ships/submarines/weapons allows for robust scenario development accurately reflecting the wide range of tactical proficiency levels as a ship and battle group traverse the deployment training cycle.

In addition to this capability to conduct single ship organic training, BFTT when networked with other units through the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE), allows for multiple ships to participate in coordinated distributed training events. More than 130 U.S. Navy warships, including CVN, CG, DDG, LHA, LHD, LPD and LSD class ships have the BFTT system.

BFTT is undergoing an incremental improvement program labeled "BFTT modernization" to improve sustainability, update the underlying technology and improve training fidelity.

The next generation of BFTT is called the advanced training domain (ATD), which integrates the training capability within the Combat System Technical Insertion 2016 (TI-16) hardware and display infrastructure. Core ATD hardware footprint will be down to a single AN/USQ-T52 rack, vice 3, which consists of training unique hardware and software, where most of the processing will be accomplished within the combat systems TI processors. ATD is being developed as modular reusable common components, which will eliminate duplicative functionality, standardize system and user interfaces, and will provide enhanced simulation models by integrating Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF) as the scenario generation tool.

What is Tactical Urbanism? Tactical urbanism is a low-cost, short-term approach designed to change the overall use and feel of streets and public spaces. These small-scale projects are often used to advance longer-term goals related to street safety and the design of public spaces. Tactical urbanism is temporary in nature, using tactical materials while demonstrating the potential of long-term change. This guide and process has been created to allow communities to lead, fund and implement design changes on their neighborhood streets through project review and approval with the city.

Boulevard Granada Tactical Walk Lane: In 2022, ATLDOT and Pillyr Foundation were awarded funds from Bloomberg Philanthropies to install an artistic tactical walk lane along Boulevard Granada, a street that had no sidewalks and wide travel lanes that encourage speeding.
