Effective 4 October 2026
Tab8 is a Chrome extension that saves your open tabs into sessions you can bring back later. This policy explains what Tab8 stores, what leaves your computer and why, and how to delete it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
The short version: Tab8 works without an account, and without one nothing you save ever leaves your computer. If you choose to sign in, your saved sessions are copied to your own private account so they can follow you to your other computers. Tab8 has no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and never sells or shares your data.
Everything you save stays on your computer, in Chrome's own storage for the extension. That includes the titles and addresses of the tabs you save, the notes and titles you give your sessions, and your settings.
Nothing is sent anywhere. Tab8 makes no network requests at all while you are signed out.
The small site icons shown next to saved tabs come from Chrome's own icon cache on your computer. Tab8 does not download them from the internet.
Uninstalling Tab8 removes everything it saved on that computer. Chrome does this automatically and it cannot be undone, so export a copy first if you might want it back.
Signing in is optional. You sign in with your email address and a one time code that we email to you. There is no password.
When you sign in, Tab8 sends:
Your email address, to create your account and to send you sign in codes
The code you type back, to confirm the address is yours
When sync is on, Tab8 also sends your saved sessions to your account, so they appear on every computer where you sign in and survive an uninstall. That means:
The titles and addresses of the tabs you saved
Session titles, notes, and the window size and tab groups saved with a session
Tags, once that feature exists
A random identifier for each of your computers, and the times things were created, changed or deleted, which sync needs to keep everything in order
Signing in is what turns sync on. If your computer already holds saved sessions when you sign in, Tab8 asks before adding them to your account, and you can say not now. If they belong to a different account, Tab8 asks whether to add them or remove them from that computer, and never mixes them in without asking.
Tab8 does not collect your browsing history, the content of the pages you visit, or anything about tabs you have not chosen to save.
Tab8 uses two services to provide accounts and sync. Neither receives anything while you are signed out.
Supabase stores your account and your synced sessions. Its servers for Tab8 are in Sydney, Australia. Your data is protected by rules in the database that let a signed in person read and change only their own rows, so no other user can see your sessions.
Brevo sends the sign in code emails, so it receives your email address and the email it delivers.
Data travels to both services over encrypted connections. We do not use any other service, and we do not sell, rent, trade or share your data with anyone for advertising or any other purpose.
Your synced sessions are kept for as long as your account exists.
When you delete a session, it is marked as deleted so the deletion can reach your other computers, and it is then removed for good after 30 days, both on your computers and on the server.
On one computer: open Tab8's settings and choose Delete all data. Signed out, this removes everything Tab8 saved on that computer. Signed in, you choose whether to delete from this computer only, which also signs you out and leaves your account untouched, or everywhere, which deletes every session from your account and every computer that syncs with it.
Your whole account: email tab8extension@gmail.com from the address you signed in with and ask for your account to be deleted. We will delete your account and everything stored with it within 30 days and confirm when it is done.
You can export everything you have saved at any time, with or without an account, from the dashboard or the settings page, as JSON, CSV or HTML.
Tab8 asks Chrome for only what it needs:
Tabs: to read the titles and addresses of the tabs you choose to save, and to close and reopen them
Tab groups: to keep your tab groups when you save and restore
Storage and unlimited storage: to keep your sessions on your computer, however many you save
Favicon: to show each saved tab's site icon from Chrome's own cache
Alarms: to sync every few minutes while you are signed in
Tab8 cannot read the content of web pages.
Tab8 is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. If a change affects what leaves your computer, Tab8 will say so in the extension before it applies.
