Q: How can you offer remote HERS testing?
A: Some HERS measures are simple inspections that can be conducted via video call, similar to a telehealth doctor appointment. Remote verification includes checking thermostat installation locations, witnessing refrigerant charge weigh-ins (performed by the contractor), and verifying the rated capacity and efficiency of installed equipment.
Q: Do you offer field HERS testing?
A: Yes, but only within Santa Barbara County. Some measures require specialized equipment and must be performed in person by a certified HERS rater. Visit our sister company, www.T24Test.ing, for more details.
Q: My Title 24 documents from another company were rejected by the building department. Can you help?
A: Maybe. It depends on the issue. Some cases require design changes, but in the past, I’ve successfully rerun calculations to prove compliance for projects that initially failed approval. It’s worth a shot.
Q: Why are your prices so low?
A: I have minimal overhead and a full-time job that covers my living expenses.
Q: How long will my compliance forms take to complete?
A: Turnaround time depends on project complexity. Simple projects typically take a day or two, while projects involving compliance, design, and drawings usually take about a week.
Q: What do you need to get started?
A: For the fastest service, please provide:
Floor plans and elevations
Project address
Owner contact information
Responsible designer contact information
Q: What if my proposed envelope design doesn’t comply?
A: I’ll analyze your building and suggest cost-effective measures to achieve compliance. You’ll receive a summary of changes along with the updated compliance documentation - at no additional cost.
Q: Do you charge for revisions if the project changes?
A: One round of minor revisions (for plan check comments or small project changes) is included free of charge. Additional revisions are billed at my standard hourly rate.
Q: Do you offer mechanical and plumbing engineering services?
A: No. To limit liability and minimize insurance costs, I only provide design assistance services. I sign compliance forms as the "document author" and offer schematic system designs and drawings, but all forms and drawings must ultimately be reviewed, signed, and/or stamped by another responsible party, such as an architect, licensed contractor, or owner-builder.
