Welcome to the website of the powder neutron diffractometer

T1-3 HERMES

stationed at Japanese Research Reactor 3 (JRR-3), Tokai, Japan.

11 years after the last cycle in 2010, JRR-3 went critical on February 26, 2021 (link). We now make every effort to restart and make the instrument running well for the upcoming beamtimes for users.

Caution!

Some characteristics of HERMES have been rectified.

+ Monochromator take-off angle changed from 90 to 116°.

+ Germanium crystals for the monochromator have completely been renewed.

+ HERMES has now two sorts of neutron wavelengths, 2.20 (Ge(331)) and 1.34 Å (Ge(551)).

+ Recommended temperature control is via LakeShore 335, not temcon anymore.
