Home to several of the oldest cities and artifacts in the world, Syria has been suffering since 2011 due to a devastating war that has turned into one of the worst humanitarian crises in the 21st century.
After over 380,000 people died and over 6.5 million were displaced, the Syrian war is now coming to an end. However, Syria faces a new obstacle due to the merciless unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union. These sanctions have only worsened Syria's already catastrophic economic emergency and seek to prevent Syria from reconstructing and recovering.
The most recent and intense wave of sanctions passed by the U.S., the Caesar Act, are expected to reign in a new era of suffering for the Syrian people. These sanctions will punish any country who does business or trades with Syria and make it extremely difficult for civilians to receive any outside aid.
The only way to alleviate this crisis is to donate to those in need and urge government officials around the world to end the sanctions on Syria and assist it in recovery.
