If you want open ear earbuds for study that prioritize long battery life and modern connectivity, choose syomiyurx 5.4; if you need compact sleep earbuds designed specifically for side sleeping with a dedicated sleep mode, choose Houlyn Sleep Earbuds. This isn't about which one sounds "better" in a vacuum, but rather which tool fits the specific friction points of your daily routine. One is built as a general-purpose audio device with a focus on connection stability and endurance, while the other is a specialized piece of gear engineered to disappear into your pillow without causing pressure or discomfort.
• syomiyurx 5.4: Its biggest strength is the Bluetooth 5.4 chipset offering stable wireless performance, while its trade-off is a standard in-ear design that may not suit heavy side sleepers. This pick is for students and commuters who need reliable audio for hours without constant recharging.
• Houlyn Sleep Earbuds: Its biggest strength is the ergonomic, soft ear caps designed specifically for side sleeping comfort, while its trade-off is a shorter 6-hour average battery life compared to the general utility of the competitor. This pick is for night owls, shift workers, and anyone who needs to block out noise while lying down.
The syomiyurx 5.4 enters the market as a robust, all-around wireless solution that leans heavily on its connectivity standards. The defining feature here is the Bluetooth 5.4 technology. In my experience analyzing these specs, moving from older generations to 5.4 usually translates to a more stable connection, lower latency, and better power efficiency during transmission. For someone trying to maintain focus, this means fewer dropouts when moving between rooms or switching devices. It is built as a traditional in-ear headphone with a dark black finish, weighing in at 70 grams for the entire set. That weight distribution feels substantial enough to stay secure during movement but light enough for extended wear.
The audio engineering relies on a 32-ohm impedance, which suggests it is tuned to deliver clear sound without requiring an external amplifier. It utilizes sound isolation as its primary method of noise control. Unlike active cancellation which requires microphones and complex processing, this model relies on the physical seal of the in-ear design to dampen outside chatter. This makes it an excellent candidate for those looking for best bone conduction headphones for study alternatives, though technically it is a closed-ear design. The physical barrier of the earbud creates a quiet zone around your ears, helping you concentrate on lectures, podcasts, or deep work sessions.

Battery management is another area where this unit shines. With a charge time of just 1.5 hours, you can quickly top up the buds before a long day. However, the design is strictly "in-ear" with no mention of specialized low-profile shapes for side sleeping. If you are a person who tosses and turns, the standard shape might press against your ear canal or the pillow after a few hours, potentially disrupting sleep rather than aiding it. It is best suited for daytime use, commuting, gym sessions, or sitting upright at a desk.
The Houlyn Sleep Earbuds take a completely different approach by solving the most common complaint people have with wearing anything in their ears while lying down: pressure. These units are engineered with an ergonomic principle that prioritizes a flat profile to minimize discomfort for side sleepers. The description highlights soft ear caps and a Bud enclosure material made of plastic, designed to be lightweight and unobtrusive. They come in a Deep Blue color and weigh approximately 2.89 ounces (which includes the case), making them incredibly portable for travel or overnight use.
A standout feature here is the "Music Sleep Dual Mode Switching." You can quickly click four times on any touch point to enter a dedicated sleep mode. This suggests a software or firmware logic that likely adjusts volume limits or frequency responses to prevent sudden loud noises from jolting you awake, creating a safer auditory environment for rest. The device also features passive noise cancellation, working in tandem with the soft ear caps to block out ambient room noise. For a student or worker who needs to focus in a noisy dorm or apartment, this isolation is vital, even if the form factor is optimized for rest rather than high-fidelity music enjoyment.
The battery performance is tailored for a single night's cycle rather than a full day of activity. The average life is listed as 6 hours, which is sufficient for a full night's sleep plus some napping, but it falls short if you plan to use them for a full workday of listening. The charging time is impressively fast at just 1 hour, meaning you can wake up, put them back in the case, and they will be ready for the next night. The Bluetooth version is 5.3, which is still highly capable for wireless audio streaming, supporting a range of 10 meters. The inclusion of water resistance adds a layer of durability, making them suitable for light exercise or outdoor hiking, provided you aren't engaging in high-intensity sports where they might fall out due to sweat or motion.
• Best for battery longevity and all-day use → syomiyurx 5.4: The faster charging time and modern 5.4 chip suggest it is built to last through long days of studying or working, whereas the Houlyn's 6-hour limit is strictly for sleep cycles.
• Best for side sleeping comfort → Houlyn Sleep Earbuds: The specialized ergonomic design and soft ear caps are non-negotiable if you sleep on your side; the syomiyurx lacks this specific contouring.
• Best for noise isolation via fit → syomiyurx 5.4: The 32-ohm impedance and in-ear placement offer a solid physical seal for blocking distractions in busy environments like libraries or coffee shops.
• Best for smart sleep features → Houlyn Sleep Earbuds: The ability to switch modes with a four-click gesture offers a user-friendly way to transition from music to sleep without fumbling with apps.
• Best for durability and versatility → Houlyn Sleep Earbuds: With waterproof ratings and foldable features, these handle travel, hiking, and office use better than the standard in-ear design of the syomiyurx.
• Best for connection stability → syomiyurx 5.4: Bluetooth 5.4 generally offers improved interference resistance compared to the 5.3 found in the Houlyn, ensuring a steadier stream during critical study sessions.
• Best for portability → Houlyn Sleep Earbuds: The lightweight construction and included carrying case make it easier to toss in a bag for a trip, whereas the syomiyurx focuses more on the earbuds themselves.
• Best for focused audio clarity → syomiyurx 5.4: The higher impedance typically allows for a richer dynamic range, making it superior for detailed listening tasks like language learning or exam prep.
In my opinion, the choice comes down entirely to your primary environment. If I were setting up a workspace for best kids headphones for study or preparing for a semester of intense exams, I would choose the syomiyurx 5.4. Its Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity and 32-ohm drivers provide the reliability and acoustic isolation needed for deep concentration, and the quick charge ensures I never run out of power mid-session. However, if the goal is simply to find peace in a noisy bedroom, the Houlyn Sleep Earbuds are the only logical choice because of their side-sleeping geometry. Ultimately, for study purposes specifically, the syomiyurx 5.4 wins because it treats audio as a tool for productivity rather than just a background companion for sleep.
Yes, both models offer noise isolation, but the syomiyurx 5.4 uses a standard in-ear seal with 32-ohm drivers for a tighter acoustic fit, while the Houlyn relies on soft ear caps and passive cancellation which is effective but softer.
The Houlyn provides an average of 6 hours of playback, ideal for a night's sleep, while the syomiyurx charges in 1.5 hours and is built with modern 5.4 tech for longer endurance, though exact hourly duration varies by usage.
Absolutely, the Houlyn model is explicitly rated as waterproof and includes features for sports and exercise, whereas the syomiyurx is designed primarily for general wireless use without specific water resistance claims.
No, the Houlyn Sleep Earbuds allow you to manually toggle between music and sleep modes by clicking the touch point four times, requiring no smartphone app interaction for basic functions.
