Got a new Synchrony card in the mail and can’t use it until it’s activated? This guide shows you how to activate it online and what to do if something goes wrong.
To activate a Synchrony card, go to the official Synchrony activation page, enter your card number and the other details it asks for, then confirm. You can also activate by phone using the number on the sticker that came with your card.
Keep your new card, and the sticker or letter it came with, in front of you.
Open the official Synchrony activation page in your browser.
Enter your card number as it appears on the front of the card.
Fill in the extra identity details the page asks for.
Review what you entered and submit it.
Wait for the on-screen message that says your card is active.
Sign the back of the card and keep it somewhere safe.
Type the web address yourself or use the official app, so you don’t end up on a lookalike site.
Synchrony will never need you to share your password or a one-time code with someone who contacts you first.
Many Synchrony cards are store or brand cards, so the exact activation steps can differ a little. Check the letter that came with your card.
Once the card is active, set up an online account so you can view your balance and payments.
Card details not accepted: Check each digit again and make sure the card was issued to you, then try once more.
Activation page not loading: Switch browsers, clear your cache, or try again on your phone.
Card not arrived or looks damaged: Call the customer service number printed on your card statement or the official website, and ask for a replacement.
Can I use my card before activating it?
No, the card usually won’t work for purchases until activation is complete.
Can I activate by phone instead?
Yes, the number on the sticker on your card lets you activate over the phone.
What if I make a mistake while entering my details?
Go back, correct them, and try again. If you’re repeatedly blocked, contact official support.
