SyncDial - Speed Dial for Chrome Bookmarks ("SyncDial") is a browser extension that replaces the new tab page with a speed dial built from your own Chrome bookmarks. This policy explains what data the extension handles and where it goes.
The short version
SyncDial collects nothing. It has no analytics, no accounts, no tracking, and no servers of its own. Your data stays in your browser and your Chrome profile.
Data the extension handles, and where it lives
Bookmarks. Your dials and folders are your Chrome bookmarks, managed through Chrome's bookmarks system. SyncDial reads and edits them only to show and manage your speed dial. They are stored by Chrome itself and, if you use Chrome Sync, synced by Google under Google's own privacy policy.
Settings. Preferences such as theme, colors, grid layout, and thumbnail choices are stored in your Chrome profile (chrome.storage.sync) so they follow you between your own computers. They are never sent to the developer.
Thumbnails and background images. Cached page thumbnails, images you upload for a dial, and any background image you upload are stored locally on your device (IndexedDB). They never leave your computer.
Network requests the extension makes
Automatic thumbnails. To show a preview image for a dial, SyncDial requests a snapshot from WordPress.com's public mshots service (s.wordpress.com). This sends the web address of the bookmarked site to that service - nothing else, and nothing about you. The service is operated by Automattic under its own privacy policy.
Custom image URLs. If you set a dial's thumbnail or the page background to an image URL, your browser fetches that image from the site you chose.
Site logo lookup. If you pick the "Site logo" thumbnail option for a dial, the extension tries the site's own standard logo address and, if needed, the public icon services of Google and DuckDuckGo. Only the site's domain name is sent to those services, and only when you use this option.
Page screenshots. When you save a page using the keyboard shortcut or the toolbar icon, the extension takes a screenshot of the page you are viewing, on your computer, and uses it as that dial's thumbnail. The screenshot stays on your device and is not transmitted anywhere.
There are no other network requests. The extension contains no remote code.
What the extension does not do
It does not collect or transmit personal information, browsing history, page content, or usage statistics. It does not show ads and does not sell or share any data with third parties. It does not read or modify web pages you visit, except for the small folder-picker overlay it shows on the current page when you explicitly use the "Save page to" shortcut or toolbar button.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same address with a new effective date.
