This Privacy Policy describes how **Synapse** ("we", "our", or "the app"), developed by Alae Bennour, collects, uses, and safeguards information when you use the Synapse mobile application for Android.
We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. Synapse is designed around the principle of **on-device utility and minimal data processing**.

## 1. Important Disclosures: Android Accessibility API Usage
Synapse utilizes the Android `AccessibilityService` API to provide its core functionality. In accordance with Google Play Developer Policies, we provide the following explicit disclosure:
* **Why we use the Accessibility API:**
Synapse uses the Accessibility API **exclusively when you explicitly tap the floating capture capsule**. Upon your manual tap, the service reads the visible text and accessibility node metadata from the currently active screen.
* **How that data is used:**
The captured screen content is analyzed solely to extract actionable notes, summarize ideas, and classify bookmarks (places, articles, events, products, or insights) into your personal notebook.
* **What we DO NOT do:**
* Synapse **never** logs or monitors screen content continuously in the background.
* Synapse **never** records keystrokes, typed text, passwords, credit card numbers, or sensitive financial/health data.
* Synapse **does not** collect personal identification numbers or private communications.
* Synapse **never** sells or shares captured screen content with third-party data brokers or advertisers.
---
## 2. Floating Window (Overlay) Permission
Synapse requests the `SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW` permission solely to display the floating capture button (the "Capsule") over other applications. This overlay is used only as an interactive trigger for on-demand note capture and does not obscure system security dialogs.

## 3. Data We Collect and Store
### A. Local User Data (Stored On-Device)
* **Captured Notes & Bookmarks:** When an item is extracted, its title, summary, category, timestamp, and metadata are stored **locally on your device** in a private SQLite database.
* **App Credits Balance:** Your remaining capture credits are stored locally using Android SharedPreferences.
### B. Third-Party Services & Automated Data Collection
We integrate trusted third-party services to support app security, artificial intelligence features, and ad monetization:
1. **Google AdMob (Google LLC)**
* We use Google AdMob to display banner, interstitial, and rewarded video ads.
* AdMob may collect and process device identifiers (such as the Android Advertising ID), general device data, and approximate location to provide advertising and combat fraud.
* Review Google's Privacy Policy: [https://policies.google.com/privacy](https://policies.google.com/privacy)
* Learn more about Google Advertising technologies: [https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads](https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads)
2. **Google Firebase(Google LLC)**
* **Firebase App Check:** Validates app authenticity to protect backend infrastructure against abuse without tracking your personal identity.

## 4. Data Sharing and Transfer
We **do not** sell, trade, or rent your personal data or captured notes to third parties. Screen data is processed strictly for the purpose of generating your personal notes.
---
## 5. User Control, Data Retention, and Deletion
* **Local Storage:** All bookmarks and notes remain on your device until you delete them.
* **Delete Individual Notes:** You can delete any individual bookmark at any time from the app's Hub screen.
* **Clear All Data:** You can wipe all stored notes and cached bookmarks instantly using the "CLEAR ALL" button in the Hub screen.
* **Uninstall:** Uninstalling Synapse removes all locally stored app databases and preferences from your device.

## 6. Children's Privacy
Synapse does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). If we become aware that we have collected information from a child without parental consent, we will take immediate steps to delete that information.
---
## 7. Security
We take appropriate administrative and technical measures to protect your data. All communication with Firebase and AI services is encrypted using industry-standard Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS). No sensitive personal information is stored unencrypted on remote servers.
---
## 8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within this document with an updated "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
