A plant after every heart: Swetcha foundation is working towards building an ecosystem that could achieve the dream of planting and nourishing 10 lakh trees in a short span of 10 years across the country.

Swetcha focuses on building the ecosystem that would sustain the motivation long after its plantation drives. This is necessary for creating a sustainable long term impact not only in driving plantation but also on maintaining the nourishment and health of the planted saplings.
Swetcha believes that creating awareness and promoting values among the society is the key for building a healthy relationship with mother nature.

Chennai has seen a severe crisis of water this year. It would not take more than a few years before Bangalore and other metros faces a similar situation.
Last summer was an example of what a few years of deforestation could do to a city like Bangalore that has been admired for its climate for centuries long. The soaring temperatures of Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad have time and again demonstrated the necessity of acting on Global warming before the most populated places of our country turn into draught lands. While Bharat has already started its steps towards reducing emissions through BS4 and started shifting to electric vehicles, we as a society can bring in a significant impact by the simple act of planting trees, the most effective way to counter global warming.
USA has 716 trees for ever person. China has over 100 per person, while there are only 28 trees for every Indian. While there is no doubt we clearly lack in trees, it is our responsibility to at least make up for the deforestation we cause and also for the growth In population so that we can pass on this country at least in the same state we inherited onto the future generations. The deforestation rate in Inida is 0.5%. This would mean we have to plant at least 18 crore trees every year.
With this thought in mind, Swetcha foundation was established and made its mission to plant 10 lakh trees in 10 years and bring in a small but meaningful impact in India.

Ichapuram is a small town in Andhra Pradesh close to the border of Orissa with a population of about 40000. Built on the river Bahuda, it was established as a trade town known for its scenic beauty. However the last 10 years have seen a drastic deprovement in the overall climate of the place. The town changed from being scenic to almost on the verge of uninhabitability owing to the unbearable heat. Kids no longer played in summer and rather spent their holidays sleeping in their houses hoping that the sun would go down and let them play. Summer is perpetual and rains are bare and are only present in the hope of the population. If seasons do not change, it would not be long before the trade town would see a massive emigration.The signs of imminent need to bring change could not have been more clear.
The very signs that have been left overlooked until this summer, touched the youth of the town and made them act this year. The suffering of the town is the seed and the ideology to bring change became the nourishment that sprouted Swetcha which has just been an idea for decades long. It did not seek regulations, it did not ask for permission, it saw the suffering and started to act, for Swetcha is the freedom to act, to do the right deed. Incidentally the local deity of the town is Swetchavati.
The alma mater of the local school Gnana Bharati took it upon themselves to initiate the change and established the trust fund Swetcha foundation - freedom to do the right thing.

How is Swetcha Different? While there are numerous NGOs that commit to planting trees, Swetcha believes in building India through villages and building villages through plantation. It relies on plantation through spreading awareness and values, and teaching awareness and morals right from the childhood. Though our mission is to plant trees, we believe it should be achieved through education and not innovation. This is the only way to bring in sustainable change.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime.
How will we drive change? Togetherness and inclusion is the principle our brand is built on. And when freedom (Swetcha) is your motto, the addition of volunteers will be organic. We will focus on including the support of as many organisations as possible and continue our activities on greenery. Only together can we bring in a sustainable change.
Rewards, Recognition and Respect: Swetcha has already started rewarding volunteer who have showcased admirable drive for plantation. However we do not intend to limit ourselves to that. Our RRR program would encourage and recognize success at every stage of the growth of the tree.till it can entirely fend for itself. Also Swetcha’s strong belief in values oriented approach suggests that we respect every individual and support each other in times of need. In short, you cannot grow as an individual if the community around us do not. We should hold hands and walk together towards collective growth.
