Los Angeles S.W.A.T. officer, Lt. Paul Cutler, is sent to train the Detroit S.W.A.T. team on new anti-terrorism and homeland security techniques. Cutler has a hard time settling into his assignment as he locks horns with his new captain and encounters resistance from the team he must lead. Cutler begins to adjust to his new assignment, starting a budding romance with police psychologist Kim Byers along the way. Unexpectedly, a routine hostage call turns deadly, and a relentless ex-government agent named Walter Hatch vows revenge on Cutler and the entire S.W.A.T. team for killing the woman he loves. Cutler must use his considerable S.W.A.T. training and knowledge to save his teammates and defeat a trained killer.
Absolute garbage even by DTV standards. It looks like shit, it's edited like shit, it's terribly acted, it's annoying as fuck and just poorly made overall. One star for that glorious final kill of the villain tho, holy shit. These DTV sequels of unsuccessful franchises always blow my mind, like who the fuck is excited for or watching these when they dropped on DVD or streaming? I walk into the cottage to see my mother have this movie queued up on the TV. I plead to her to put on anything else. She says no. I pull out my Nintendo Switch and half pay attention. 30 minutes in my mother says this is shit and says she wants to go to bed. I contemplate buying Mario + Rabbids kingdom battle on the Nintendo Switch store. $20 for the gold edition. that's not too bad right?
Ya this movie is awful. I feel like its trying to be accurate to real SWAT teams but the guy who directed this also had no clue how real swat missions are. Seeing movies like these just upset me. Not even so bad its good. It just sucks.
I don't know, I didn't hate this. Sure it looks like dogshit and most of the dialogue is clich to the point of meaninglessness. But Gabriel Macht is just a charismatic enough lead to drag me along. I wish Robert Patrick as the villain felt more central to the story. His backstory and resources are humorously vague to the point that I can't tell if it's lazy or on purpose.
He's a constant threat, but kind of on the sidelines while the S.W.A.T. team goes on other adventures (which, to be honest, is also an issue with the first movie). Despite this being a sequel, it's completely unrelated to the previous S.W.A.T., so it still feels the need to do all the first act character work without actually setting up a plot.
This DTV sequel that nobody asked for certainly isn't good, but I kind of enjoyed myself.
New team, new city, direct-to-video. First half: a competent action movie that feels, looks, and behaves like a somewhat watchable cop show, as SWAT trainer (Gabriel Macht) is assigned to certify a team in Detroit, then he badly crosses paths with a vengeful psychopath (Robert Patrick). Second half: the plot begins to sputter and spurt after a dull mid section, some of the action scenes are okay for TV but don't feel integral to the story, and Patrick's one note performance becomes boring. The damsel in distress finale is weak. That said, for a DTV affair, you could do much worse.
Details of what happened are still limited. What we do know is that it happened in the Tanglewood Oaks neighborhood. It involved a suspect who is believed to have held hostages, leading to a firefight with the SWAT team.
"No one ever expects to hear the news that one of our own died in the line of duty," Bullock said. "We all mentally prepare for that moment, but no one ever really expects it. So when you do hear it, it doesn't seem real."
