An Introduction to Swaprakashan
SWAPRAKASHAN PUBLICATION CELL
Swaprakashan is dedicated to publishing high-quality writing for the literate general public.
We favor work that is wide-ranging in subject, individual in voice, and committed to social concerns.
We believe that good literature, like all the arts, can make a difference in the world: healing, challenging, awakening, and bringing us closer together.

Swaprakashan Cell of L.A.D. & Smt. R.P. College was established in the year 2006, with following as its members:

Context
The Swaprakashan Cell is basically formed to encourage all the publications of the college under one casing.
All the concerned teaching and non-teaching staff have been advised to route all the printing and publication work through the Publication Cell.
As such, the college prospectus, journals, souvenirs, magazines, news letters, annual reports etc are being published under the Swaprakashan Cell.
The cell had received a block of 110 ISBN from Rajaram MohunRoy National Agency for ISBN, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, New Delhi.
SCOPE
Covers all marketing materials created by staff, faculty administration and students..
Institutional Publications are included (but are not limited to) the prospectus, research journals, program information guides, student handbook, faculty handbook, telephone directory, laboratory manuals and commencement brochures.
PRACTICE
• To inform the campus community of the rules regarding campus publications aimed at potential staff and students and the community-at-large.
• The Swaprakashan is a college publication, published under the authority granted to the Publication Cell.
• Publication and Printing costs are paid by the Individual / Department / College depending on the category of manuscript to be published.
VISION
Provide a platform to all those interested in Publication – within the college and also out of the college.
Publications may include the college seal or logo; Printed matter in which the college logo appears and which represents the college to the public is desirable.
Web address and/or individual or department E-mail addresses should be included as contacts for more information.
Publications should also have contact telephone numbers for those without access to computers.
TEAM WORK
• The short term Add on courses on Diabetes Education & Management were conducted in association with institutions like CARE hospital wherein the first book in HEAL series was printed on Diabetes and the same was provided to the participants who were not only Home science students but also the Diabetic patients / Care takers/ Dietetics students.
• As part of the workshop, quiz was conducted and the prizes that were distributed to the winners were the books from the Swaprakashan Cell.
• The names of the staff members of other colleges belonging to the same faculty have been incorporated into the list of Advisors in the Laboratory Manuals.

IMPACT
• Publications of the college have increased. Allotment of 110 ISBN which means Swaprakashan has got recognition & advertisement.
• Till date, a total of 26 Books and 6 Laboratory manuals have been published under its aegis.
• Other colleges have utilized & benefitted from the publications specially the laboratory manuals.
• Uniformity of teaching and in the conduct of the Practical’s being conducted in various colleges within the RTMNU has been achieved.
Address cum-directory
For the first time, an address cum-directory of the college staff has been published for the year 2007 & 2008 which also includes in it, the year planner.
OBSTACLES FACED
Funds : the authors have financed the publications themselves without any financial aid.
This has prevented many staff members from contributing their manuscripts for publication.
In usual practice, the author is not required to invest any money themselves, but the entire investment is handled by the publisher and royalty thereon is received by the authors.
Marketing : Secondly the professional publisher has a wide network of book sellers & agents at his disposal which makes the sale of books faster & easier and also the publicity due to the display at the shops increases the marketing profitability. This in turn raises the demand.
