Senior Eli DeWitt and sophomore Max Smith travelled to Hershey to compete against 235 other runners in the Pennsylvania state championships. The weather was unseasonably warm, but fortunately cloudy skies and breezy conditions kept things from getting too hot. Starting from one of the inside boxes, Eli and Max got boxed in at the first big turn and were forced to run from behind the remainder of the race. After crossing the mile mark in 143rd place, Eli fought his way past 83 runners to finish in 60th place. Max was caught further behind in 186th place at the mile mark. He patiently worked his up to finish in 104th place. Congratulations to Eli and Max on their successful seasons!
The Seneca Valley XC teams returned to Cal U to compete in the WPIAL championships. The course was a little muddy, but the temperature was good for racing. The girls went off first and finished in 9th place out of the 29 teams competing. Abby Kreber and Samantha Moury ran good races to finish in 29th and 30th place. They just missed qualifying for the state meet as the final spot was the 27th finisher. Freshman Hannah Jones and sophomore Sydney Heltzell completed strong rookie seasons as they finished 48th and 56th. Grace Graner (65th), Claire Riehl (71st), and Freya Davis (102nd) completed the girls lineup.
Following their 2nd place showing at Tri-States, the boys were trying to earn a team spot in Hershey. Unfortunately, they were edged out by South Fayette and finished in 3rd place. In previous years that would have been enough to qualify, but the PIAA took a team spot from the WPIAL this cycle. Seneca Valley will be sending two runners to compete at states as Eli DeWitt and Max Smith finished in the top 20 and earned qualification to compete at Hershey. Ryan Domencic (33rd) and Ethan Barnett (35th) ran great races to take the #3 and #4 team spots. Connor Smith finished 52nd to complete the scoring lineup. Sawyer Shoup (61st) and Ryan Karpinsky (93rd) completed the Raiders lineup.

In what turned out to be an unusual section meet, the Seneca Valley cross country teams split their matchups with North Allegheny and North Hills. An approaching thunder storm caused a 30-minute delay to the races. To ensure the meet completed, a varsity race was run with the boys and girls running simultaneously. The boys ran strong against NA, but fell to the #1 team in the state 40-20. They defeated North Hills 16-41. The girls also had to deal with NA's top ranked girls. They lost that matchup 39-19, but defeated North Hills 15-50. Due to more inclement weather, the JV race was cancelled.

Continuing the new tradition, the team had a fun time competing against each other in their wacky pre-season race. The girls were split into 4 teams and the boys split into 3 teams. Each team selected a name and an item to be their baton for the race. A 2 mile course that included the serpentine, the jug handle, and the nature trail was run for each leg. The runner of the last leg had to complete the course backwards. Both races came down to sprint finishes with the winning girls team being 80's Ladies. The winning boys team was Team Steve.Â
