Effective Date: 2026-02-03
This Privacy Policy explains how Surf Sentry handles information when you use the app and its Safari extension. We build Surf Sentry with a privacy-first approach and aim to use as little data as possible to deliver the features you enable.
Surf Sentry does not collect or sell your personal information.
Surf Sentry’s filtering and enhancements are designed to run on your device.
We do not upload your browsing content to our servers.
You stay in control through Safari extension permissions and in-app settings.
We do not request account registration and do not collect:
Your name, phone number, email (other than if you contact us)
Your browsing history, page content, form inputs, passwords, search queries
Precise location, contacts, photos, or advertising identifiers
Device-level identifiers for tracking across apps
If you contact us by email: we will receive the information you choose to include (for example, your email address and the content of your message). We use it only to respond and provide support.
Surf Sentry may process certain information locally on your device to provide the features you turn on, such as:
Matching web requests against block rules (ads/trackers/annoyances)
Hiding page elements you choose to block via an element picker
Cleaning tracking parameters from links you share or open
Applying reading/media enhancements (e.g., picture-in-picture, speed control, page capture) depending on your configuration
This processing is intended to be ephemeral and functional—it happens to produce the result you asked for and is not used to build profiles about you.
Safari may ask you to grant Surf Sentry permission to access website content (for example, “All Websites” or specific domains). This permission is required for the extension to work on the sites you choose.
Important clarification: permission to access site content enables local functionality; it does not mean Surf Sentry transmits your browsing data to us.
We do not share your personal information with third parties because we generally do not collect it.
We do not sell data, rent data, or trade data.
Surf Sentry does not include third‑party advertising SDKs.
Surf Sentry does not perform cross‑site tracking for marketing.
Surf Sentry does not use your browsing content for targeted advertising.
If we add optional analytics in the future, it will be opt-in where feasible, described clearly, and reflected in an updated policy.
Surf Sentry does not intentionally collect diagnostic logs by default. However:
If you have enabled Apple’s system-level sharing of crash/diagnostic data, Apple may provide us with aggregated or processed crash information to help improve stability.
We use any such information solely for debugging and reliability improvements, not for advertising or profiling.
Surf Sentry may store certain information on your device to remember your choices, for example:
Enabled modes (e.g., focus or safety modes)
Allowlists/denylists (sites you exclude/include)
Custom rules or element-block entries you create or import
Feature toggles and UI preferences
This information is stored locally and is intended to help Surf Sentry function consistently.
Support emails: retained as long as reasonably necessary to respond, follow up, and maintain a support history, then deleted or anonymized when no longer needed.
Local settings: remain on your device until you change them or uninstall the app (uninstalling typically removes local app data).
Surf Sentry is used by people in many locations. Because we do not collect browsing content, we generally do not conduct international transfers of such data. If you email us, your email provider and ours may process messages in different countries as part of normal email delivery.
Surf Sentry is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we may handle (primarily support emails). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we strive to minimize risk by minimizing collection.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product changes, legal requirements, or improvements. When we update it, we will revise the Effective Date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app or release notes.
