Surewicz Lab
Welcome to the Surewicz Lab! We are a member of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. Our group utilizes biochemical and biophysical approaches to address questions of protein misfolding in neurodegenerative diseases, including but not limited to prion diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and frontotemporal dementia. Specifically, we are interested in investigating the molecular and structural basis of protein misfolding, prion infectivity, amyloid formation, and the role of liquid-liquid phase separation in protein aggregation. By understanding these processes, we hope to gain insights into the pathological mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders. This, in turn, could provide a stepping stone for development of novel therapeutic approaches.
